Hyundai Inster: the new SUV with two motors and up to 355 km of range

Hyundai Motor Company has launched its innovative electric model INSTER at the Busan International Mobility Show 2024. This SUV subcompact, belonging to the A segment, promises to revolutionise urban mobility with its futuristic design, cutting-edge technology and an impressive range of up to 355 km according to the WLTP cycle.

Design

The design of the INSTER is a bold evolution of the Hyundai legacy, inspired by the style of the CASPER, launched in Korea in 2021. It features a sturdy, compact profile with smooth, clean surfaces, as well as high-tech details such as the wheel arches and a bumper. The exterior design features a signature LED daytime running light and pixel graphics in the indicators and rear lights, giving it a modern and distinctive look.

Customisation options include LED projector headlights and a range of exterior colours including Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, Bijarim Khaki Matte, and the vibrant Sienna Orange Metallic, among others. In addition, customers can opt for a contrasting black roof and 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, or 15- and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Performance and 355 km range

The INSTER is available in two variants: one with a 42 kWh battery and another long-range version with a 49 kWh battery. The base variant offers a motor of 71.1 kW (97 CV), while the long-range version reaches 84.5 kW (115 CV), both with a torque of 147 Nm. The maximum range of 355 km (WLTP) on a single charge redefines expectations for subcompact electric vehicles, with an estimated energy consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km.

DC fast-charging capability allows charging from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes using a high-power charging station of 120 kW. It also features an 11 kW on-board charger, a battery heating system and a high-efficiency heat pump. The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function allows bidirectional charging for external devices.

Interior space and comfort

The interior of the INSTER is designed to maximise comfort and functionality. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment display of the same size offer an intuitive and connected user experience. The compact centre console includes a wireless charging pad, providing a clean and organised space.

The pixel theme is also reflected in the interior, with graphics on the steering wheel and customisable trim pieces on the doors, allowing owners to tailor the vehicle to their personal tastes. The seats fold flat, including the driver’s seat, and the option of a bench-style front seat offers greater flexibility. In addition, the front seats and steering wheel are heated, and the rear seats split 50/50, allowing them to slide and recline to suit different loading needs.

Technology and safety added

The INSTER is equipped with an advanced set of safety and driver assistance features. The technologies included are the Surround View Monitor (SVM), the Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R), the Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) and the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5). It also features systems such as Lane Keeping and Lane Following Assist (LKA and LFA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go, and Highway Driving Assist 1.5 (HDA 1.5).

The LED ambient lighting in 64 colours and access via Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch (NFC) are some of the customisation options the brand offers.

The INSTER will initially launch in Korea during the summer, followed by its arrival in markets such as Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. Most features and technologies are expected to be standard, with customisation options available for consumers. An additional variant called the INSTER CROSS, designed for outdoor activities, will soon join the family.
