Hyundai unveils the first details of the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7

The Korean brand is developing new models under the Ioniq badge and is giving us the first data on these two new cars, which will arrive shortly.

Hyundai Ioniq Marca

After announcing that the Ioniq 5 would be followed by two new electric models, Hyundai has revealed some of the features of the upcoming Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7. The two electric vehicles from the Korean brand are ready for production, and their arrival is scheduled for a few months from now.

The Ioniq 6 is an electric saloon expected to reach the market at the end of 2022. Its design and features place it in the E-segment, where it will compete with models such as the recently launched Audi e-tron GT or the Porsche Taycan. We knew it will use the E-GMP platform shared with Hyundai and KIA, which has a lot to do with the design of the Hyundai Prophecy concept, but what we did not yet know, and has now been announced, is its battery capacity.

Ioniq 6 features

The Ioniq 6 will have a 73 kWh battery pack, which will give it a range of 483 kilometres, although this will depend on the motor configuration. Two variants are planned, with one or two motors. The first will offer a single motor delivering 160 kW, equivalent to 218 CV. The dual-motor version will have a combined output of 230 kW, equivalent to 313 CV.

Ioniq 7, a family electric SUV

A little later, in 2024, the Ioniq 7 will arrive. An electric SUV designed for the family, with a six- or seven-seat configuration, so that everyone can travel comfortably. It is expected to offer an all-wheel-drive variant, although the presentation only mentioned a version with a single motor. This one will have an output of 230 kW, equivalent to 313 CV.

The battery in this model will offer a capacity of 100 kWh, which, given the vehicle’s greater weight compared with the Ioniq 6, will match the Ioniq 6’s claimed range of 483 kilometres.

After city cars, compact cars and saloons, SUVs and pick-ups are the next vehicles gaining presence in the electrified market. The popularity of these vehicles means manufacturers are beginning to focus on their electrification, and it will become increasingly common to find an electric SUV or pick-up.
