It's official! The new BMW M5 produces 600 CV and features an all-wheel-drive system
The new BMW M5 has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It will feature an all-wheel-drive system and a new twin-turbo V8 engine producing 600 CV

The BMW M5 has more than 30 years of history and remains one of the most sought-after high-performance luxury saloons on the market. Following the leaked images from a few days ago and the first information received in May, today BMW has fully revealed the new generation of the M5, which it will officially present at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new M5 is officially the most powerful in the model’s history thanks to the 600 CV produced by its new twin-turbo V8 engine. This powerplant is an improved version of the previous engine, now featuring new turbochargers and optimised injection and cooling systems. The M5’s new drivetrain also delivers 750 Nm of torque, available from 1,800 rpm.

The main difference between the new BMW M5 and its predecessor is its drivetrain. For better or worse, the model leaves behind a long era of rear-wheel-drive cars and begins a new era with the introduction of the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. This system comes with a torque distributor between the axles that favours the rear axle and has a more sporty approach than other systems in the same category.
Despite incorporating an all-wheel-drive system (a component that always increases the vehicle’s total weight), the new BMW M5 is lighter than its predecessor. Its homologated weight is 1,855 kilos, a saving of 75 kg compared with the previous model. This reduction is due to the use of aluminium and carbon fibre in areas such as the roof.
If there is one word to describe this model, it is “beast”, thanks to its incredible acceleration. The new M5 reaches 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, the same time it takes a Porsche 911 GT3 to do so, for example.
