In terms of equipment, versatility, practicality and ease of driving, the new Iveco Daily Camper becomes one of the best alternatives to a motorhome.

What a transformation Camper Eurogaza has carried out on the base of the Iveco Daily. Without a doubt, this is the camper van that most resembles a motorhome in terms of equipment. I would even say it improves on the option offered by motorhomes in many respects, especially when it comes to mobility and ease of driving.

And the Iveco Daily Camper arrives at the best moment, with a camper market that has grown by more than 330% in Spain since 2015. This segment offers many choices, but we would point to the Volkswagen Grand California as the main rival of the Iveco Daily Camper. As we will see, compared with the latter the Daily Camper stands out for its solutions and equipment, at a much lower price.

It is available from 45,718 euros (taxes not included), launch price with an offer that includes the pack with the awning, the solar panel on the roof and the electric access step, valued at 2,150 euros. The bad news: for 2021 there will only be 50 units available. Let us take a closer look at this “super camper van”. But I can already tell you that we have had the chance to check the quality of the camper conversion in a static presentation, and it pleased us greatly for how well conceived and executed it is technically, as well as for its quality.

The base: Iveco Daily with 2.3 turbodiesel engine

The starting point is the Iveco Daily with the renowned and proven 2.3 four-cylinder engine with variable geometry turbocharger, which delivers 156 CV and a maximum torque of 380 Nm. It is coupled to an adaptive 8-speed automatic gearbox, which combines smoothness and comfort with a speed not very common in this type of torque converter gearbox: it changes gear in just 200 milliseconds, and has two programs: ECO for more efficient driving, and POWER to prioritise dynamism.

The bodywork reaches a length of 6 metres, with an interior height of 1.9 metres that allows you to move around without having to stoop. It is also available in a raised-roof version, with an interior height of 2.1 metres, in which case the capacity rises from 12 to 18 cubic metres.

Access to the rear interior is through an wide sliding side door on the right-hand side that can be fitted with an electric step, or a double rear door with a 270-degree opening. The driving position is the well-known one of the Iveco Daily, with first-class equipment. And the driver will enjoy advantages such as one of the best turning circles in its category, especially when manoeuvring or parking.

Safety systems and driving aids are not lacking, and are especially welcome in this type of vehicle, such as hill start assist, emergency brake assist, the longitudinal load distribution recognition system, the assistant for stabilising the vehicle in crosswinds, or the stability system that mitigates dangerous situations that could cause a rollover, for example during an evasive manoeuvre.

But the best part comes when it is time to enjoy the Iveco Daily Camper at your destination.

Iveco Daily Camper: the closest thing to a house on wheels

The interior of the Daily Camper is completely lined, with a non-slip Sintasol PVC floor with a wood-effect finish, and thermoformed ABS walls and ceiling. The three roof skylights and the side windows ensure light and ventilation. And the White polar awning, made of waterproof material with a sturdy structure that is very easy to install and includes a practical LED spotlight, lets us set up a pleasant porch right at the “home” door.

The entire electrical installation is based on a CAN-bus-c system and LED technology, with a mixed system combining the vehicle’s base battery, an auxiliary 150 Ah battery and 160-watt solar panels on the roof, which provides maximum durability and great efficiency. There are 2 interior 220-volt sockets, two more 12-volt sockets on the left side, an exterior 220-volt socket, and a 220 V exterior adapter with a universal plug… there will be no shortage of connections.

The furniture allows you to enjoy a 1.30 x 1.85 metre bed above the rear storage compartment, and a second removable bed fitted over the storage bed, which has a slatted base and its corresponding mattress. And among the camper equipment, we highlight how well integrated the two-burner combi cooker (with butane installation) is into the interior furniture, with a single-bowl sink, the built-in 75-litre fridge with a small freezer, and the bathroom with a shower tray with double drain.

There are many very practical and generously sized drawers and compartments spread throughout the living space, and the conversion is completed with two 90-litre water tanks (one for clean water, one for waste water), and the air-conditioning system including an autonomous auxiliary heater with 4 kW of power and a water heater.

Note that, along with the vehicle’s two-year warranty, the conversion also comes with a two-year warranty against any possible defect, with no mileage limit.
