Jeep aims to double its sales in Spain with the new Compass

The Jeep brand aims to increase its market share in Spain with the launch of the brand’s new SUV, the Compass.

With the launch of the new Compass, Jeep can finally compete in a segment that registers more than 170,000 vehicles a year, the C-SUV. A large slice of the pie that the American brand from the FCA group also wants its share of. “We are a very specialized brand, we only make SUVs and off-road vehicles, and therefore we are a niche brand that must now grow to double its sales figures… and thus stop being a niche brand,” says Javier Marijuán, general manager of Jeep in Spain.

With the Compass already on sale in the Spanish market from 25,500 euros, Jeep hopes to reach a market penetration of 1 percent in the Spanish market as a brand, or even exceed it. The Compass enters squarely into the fierce commercial battle taking place in the mid-size SUV segment (C-SUV), one of the fastest-growing segments in all markets around the world, which is expected to continue along the same trend in the coming years until it exceeds 20% of registrations on a global scale, which would mean around 7.5 million units in 2020.

Jeep wants to achieve a 1% market share in our country with the Compass, in a rising segmentIn Europe the C-SUV market — in which there are hardly any brands that do not compete with some model — is expected to reach two million units in 2020. In Spain current estimates indicate that more than 200,000 C-SUV units should be exceeded in that same year, hence the good prospects that the top executive of Jeep in our country outlines for his brand.

In terms of concept, if not technology, the Jeep Renegade is to the Jeep Wrangler what this Jeep Compass is to the Grand Cherokee. In concept, they are really very close, obviously differentiated by size, but not by comfort, ride quality, equipment and dynamism, whether on or off the asphalt.

The range of the new Compass sold in Spain is built around two possible petrol engines (140 and 170 hp) and two other diesels (120 and 140 hp), reaching a total of eight combinations of engines and gearboxes, in addition to those added by the four available trims: Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk, and endless combinations of accessories signed by Mopar.
