The South Korean manufacturer has just made official the facelift of the Kia Cee’d 2015, the successful segment C compact that receives an update to tackle the rest of its lifecycle before the arrival of the next generation. Although the changes to the design, both exterior and interior, are fairly subtle, Kia states that its engineers have worked to improve noise, vibration, harshness, suspension and chassis, as well as introducing adjustments to the existing engines and the arrival of a new three-cylinder powerplant.

Starting with the aesthetic section, the Kia Cee’d 2015 receives a more angular and wider front bumper with plenty of chrome detailing, especially around the fog lights, and a new oval mesh grille. The rear, like the front, receives a redesigned bumper and rear lights with LED technology. These changes will be visible across the entire Cee’d range, which comprises the five-door model, the three-door Pro_Cee’d and the Cee’d SW estate, which will also feature new 16- and 17-inch alloy wheel designs.

Inside, the Kia Cee’d 2015 includes minor changes, such as chrome detailing around the instrument cluster, the air vents and a new dashboard finished in glossy black. Other chrome details, which help create a more elegant look, are visible around the gear lever, the door handles and the climate control knobs. Optionally, customers will be able to opt for the Brown Pack, which includes upholstery and door panels in brown.

Continuing with the improvements before moving on to the engines, the new Cee’d 2015 debuts new technology that reduces noise, vibration and harshness in the diesel engines, while the entire engine range is equipped with sound-absorbing material in the engine block, the oil filter and the particulate filter. Kia, for its part, states that its engineers have worked on the suspension and chassis to improve ride comfort and handling, in addition to introducing a new torque vectoring system.

In the engines section, the star of the new Cee’d 2015 range is the 1.0-litre turbocharged T-GDI three-cylinder block, which will be available with two different power outputs: 100 CV and 120 CV. Both offer a maximum torque of 172 Nm available between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. Continuing with the engine improvements, the diesel engines have been revised by the South Korean brand. The 1.6-litre CRDi block offers power outputs of 110 CV and 136 CV, the latter gaining 8 CV and 20 Nm to reach a maximum torque of 285 Nm.

The petrol options remain the 1.6-litre GDI with 128 CV and the 1.4-litre MPI with 100 CV, while the 1.4-litre CRDi diesel variant with 90 CV is still offered, all having been reconfigured to comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard. On the other hand, the Cee’d GT and Pro_Cee’d GT feature a new turbocharger, which has allowed the power of their 1.6-litre T-GDI engine to increase from 201 CV to 204 CV, reducing the 0 to 100 km/h time by 0.1 seconds (to 7.6 seconds). Emissions improve to 170 g/km.

Finally, concluding the improvements to the Kia Cee’d 2015, a new seven-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic gearbox is now available exclusively for the 1.6-litre CRDi 136 CV engine, improving its CO2 emissions from 145 g/km to a respectable 109 g/km, which allows it, in Spain, to avoid paying the registration tax for low emissions and qualify as an ecological vehicle.
