Lamborghini says goodbye to the Gallardo

Gallardo 1

The Italian manufacturer, owned by the Volkswagen consortium, is saying goodbye these days to one of its greatest successes of recent years. This is the Gallardo, which is ceasing production these days.

In fact, the last unit has already left the assembly line, and its destination is a private collector who will surely look after it and enjoy it in many ways.

Since 2003, the Lamborghini Gallardo has been the youngest model in the Italian family. Built already under the wing of VW, during this decade a total of 14,022 units have been manufactured, making it the best-selling model in the history of the bull brand.

In fact, the company highlights that before the arrival of the Gallardo, Lamborghini sold around 250 units a year on average, a figure that rose to approximately 2,000 units with the introduction of the “small” supercar.

Let us recall that the Gallardo was created as an entry point to the brand, and it featured an naturally aspirated V10 engine that, at the beginning, delivered 500 CV. Later, thanks to successive updates introduced over time, power increased in stages until reaching a final 570 CV. It was sold both as a coupé and as a convertible, offering the choice between a 6-speed robotised gearbox or a traditional 6-speed manual.

Not much is known about the Gallardo’s successor, although it is speculated that it will be called “Cabrera” and have a power figure of around 600 CV, fitted with an updated 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine.
