Cybertruck Tesla Electric Cars Pick-up
Las Vegas adds Cybertruck from Tesla to its police vehicle fleet
With the Cybertruck, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department not only modernizes its vehicle fleet, but also sets a precedent in the use of electric vehicles for police work.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department -LVMPD- has the distinction of becoming the first police force in the world to have a fairly large fleet of Cybertrucks for patrol and citizen service duties. In total, ten units of the electric pickup from Tesla, suitably modified by the UP.FIT division of Unplugged Performance, are already on the streets of this major city in the state of Nevada.
Each of these Cybertrucks incorporates all the necessary police equipment, including emergency lights, sirens, loudspeakers, prisoner partitions, front bumpers, side protection, and a reinforced suspension and braking system for pursuits. In addition, all these vehicles are prepared to operate in extreme conditions and are integrated with the LVMPD’s immediate-response drone program.

Following the announcement of the addition of these ten Cybertrucks to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department fleet, UP.FIT of Unplugged Performance has wanted to highlight the importance of the alliance between these two entities, which made this project possible. The vehicles were delivered before the end of last October, under the motto “Technology that saves lives”. During the event, police commanders presented these vehicles as the most advanced in active service and emphasized that, being fully electric, they contribute to the department’s environmental goals by eliminating emissions and reducing operating costs.
The advantages offered by the Cybertruck are not few
The ten Cybertrucks were entirely funded through private donations. According to UP.FIT’s calculations, each of these electric pickups will save at least 47,540 dollars over the next five years, compared with the cost of an equivalent combustion-engine pickup, due to both energy and maintenance costs. At current local electricity rates, annual fuel savings alone are estimated to be between 9,000 and 12,000 dollars per vehicle.

Finally, it is worth clarifying that although Las Vegas is debuting the first Cybertruck fleet, it is not the first police department to have a Cybertruck. A year ago, the Irvine Police Department, in Southern California, acquired a unit also suitably modified by UP.FIT.
