Leaked! The BMW M9 and M7 could become reality sooner than you think

It has just leaked that BMW M has filed patent applications with the patent office for the BMW M7 and the BMW M9!

As you probably know, combustion engines may eventually disappear. This won’t be a radical change, but the car industry is changing little by little. Specifically, BMW has started its journey with the launch of the BMW i4 and the BMW iX. That’s not all, because in 2025 its new CLAR platform for electric cars will arrive. Hold on, because here comes the good part: it has leaked that the sporting division of the Bavarian brand has applied for patents for two new high-performance models, the BMW M9 and the BMW M7.

These patents are top secret, but a specialized source has obtained the patent applications filed with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. Are we facing the imminent arrival of two new models? Are the BMW M7 and BMW M9 the future of the sporting division, BMW M?

Will the BMW M7 and M9 become reality?

This is not the first time BMW has registered patents for these new models. The first was in 2017, and in the end we never got to meet either of them. At that time, the German manufacturer assured that the BMW M760i would be the most powerful BMW 7 Series. The BMW M9 has been speculated about for a long time, and we have never seen so much as a concept.

Now everything is very different, and we must bear in mind that the whole industry is following the path of electrification. It is quite possible that the sporting division has changed course and is considering developing an BMW M7 and an BMW M9. Although for now it is only a patent filing, we are very excited about the news, and we should think that the brand is working on the next generation of its 7 Series. Is this the ideal moment to think about a new sports car?

As this is the latest generation with a combustion engine, BMW could put a very fitting final touch by betting on the BMW M7. Do you agree? The launch of the new BMW M9 is somewhat more complex, although a few weeks ago we talked about the tests of the BMW M8 CSL at the Nürburgring. This model would be equipped with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine combined with electric assistance, offering a combined output of 700 CV. It is worth noting that this powertrain could also make its way into a BMW M9.

Although nothing has been confirmed, if both models reach production we would be looking at two saloons, since all combustion-engined four-door models have odd-numbered names.
