Leaked! The new Megane RS Renault is “revealed” ahead of time

Leaked images show for the first time the unclad bodywork of the French sports compact that will be presented at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new Renault Megane RS is one of the most anticipated models of the year. The French sports compact will be presented officially at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which will take place on September 12, but we won’t have to wait until then to see it uncovered, thanks to images that have leaked onto the Internet.

The photographs in question appear to have been taken from one of the French brand’s facilities. This is the first time we have seen the new Megane RS without camouflage, which allows us to recognise several of the novelties the model will incorporate during its presentation in Frankfurt. Among them, we find the famous fog lights designed by Renault Sport and taken directly from the Renault Clio RS 220 Trophy. The model has also received wider wheel arches than the standard version, as well as brake cooling ducts located at the front and rear of the car. At the rear there is a single exhaust outlet with the typical trapezoidal shape that already characterised the previous generation of this model.

With this new preview, we already know the design the new Megane RS will offer at its official presentation, but there are still several aspects of the car that remain unknown, among them its mechanics. Rumours suggest that the French sports compact could offer the same 1.8 TCe engine found in the new Alpine A110, a powertrain that in the case of the Megane could develop around 300 CV (50 CV more than the current generation). Another possibility is that it will feature an improved version of the 2.0 TCe powertrain found in the current Megane RS.

Whichever engine it ultimately uses, there are two details we already know about its mechanics: it will use a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and the famous 4Control system from Renault ; a device that allows all four wheels to steer and provides great agility on tight bends and greater stability on fast corners.
