Lexus has unveiled at the New York Auto Show the new generation of its best-known SUV model, the RX.

It is a completely new generation -and this makes four- of one of the pioneers of premium SUVs, and it arrives with a most striking design and high-flying technology.

The 2016 RX debuts a truly eye-catching design. Taking the brand’s latest creations as reference (above all the NX), the RX wears a outfit in which angles, folds and cuts are the norm. Not a single panel is flat or rounded; everything on the bodywork of the new RX enjoys careful design.

The front adopts the now characteristic family grille, of a more than remarkable size. It is the hallmark of the nose, which also houses light units similar to those of the NX, though with an even more compact design, since the whole lighting assembly -LED, of course- is gathered into a single optical unit, without the need to split it into two parts.

The side has become considerably more radical compared with the previous generation. We can say that the designers have “stretched” the lines of the current RX, resulting in a very dynamic profile in which the shape of the rear windows stands out, as well as the appearance of a large number of creases in the door panels.

The rear is perhaps the area with the least aggressiveness. It is the most recognisable view of the whole, keeping the light units at the same height, as well as the general shapes, merely sharpening the lines that already exist.

The interior is completely new, offering a great sense of quality from the very first glance. The design is far more attractive than that of the previous generation, grouping the controls in a much more logical way and using higher-quality materials.

The technological load is very large, since the 2016 RX will arrive with two petrol engines: the RX 350, with a 3.5 V6 engine producing 300 CV paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the RX 450h, with a hybrid powertrain that delivers a total output also around 300 CV with very low consumption. The RX can also be fitted with active damping systems, as well as a HUD for the driver, traffic sign recognition or automatic emergency braking in the event of a risk of rear-end collision.
