Maserati MCXtrema: a track-only supercar producing over 700 CV

The latest creation from the trident brand is a radical supercar strictly for the track, limited to 62 units worldwide and with jaw-dropping performance

Following the presentation of the spectacular Maserati MC20 Cielo more than a year ago, the popular Italian brand returned a few months later to unveil its Maserati Project24, a prototype limited to just 62 units that had been conceived solely and exclusively for track use. However, the trident brand has decided to slightly change the name of this circuit machine, and it will now be called the Maserati MCXtrema.

Inheriting the specifications and advanced technology of the MC20, the new Maserati MCXtrema aims to take the brand’s performance to a new level. Among other things, it features the latest-generation Nettuno V6 engine, to which new turbochargers have been added, raising its output to a full 740 CV.

Brand new

As for its design, this supercar was styled by the Maserati Centro Stile, with huge air intakes, large aerodynamic bulges, a massive rear wing and diffuser, and two exhaust outlets at the top of the rear bumper in the style of the Lamborghini Huracán.

One of the aspects that received the most attention during development is its lightness. Thanks to lightweight materials such as carbon fibre, its ultralight monocoque chassis, also in carbon fibre, and front and side windows made of Lexan, it weighs less than 1,250 kilograms, a truly impressive figure that gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 1.69 kg/CV.

Only the essentials

Inside, the cabin of the MCXtrema is stripped of all superfluous elements, offering only what is necessary for a vehicle of this kind: competition seats, adjustable pedals and steering column, a steering wheel with an integrated display, adjustable traction control and ABS, and optional items such as a tyre pressure monitoring system, telemetry recording, a driving performance optimisation monitor, or an onboard camera for video recording.

Looking more closely at its specifications and technical features, this supercar measures 2,020 millimetres wide and 1,220 millimetres tall, so its proportions are truly aggressive.

In accordance with the FIA competition requirements, it is fitted with a homologated FT3 fuel tank of 120 litres, a fire extinguisher, and a roll cage also approved by the FIA.

A clear mission: delivering maximum performance

Paired with the 3,000 cc Nettuno V6, dry sump and 740 CV, it features a 6-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel, a competition clutch, a mechanical limited-slip rear differential, and rear-wheel drive.

As would be expected of a vehicle developed 100% for competition, Maserati has fitted a high-performance braking system signed by Brembo, custom-made 18-inch forged aluminium wheels, and adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars.

With all this, Maserati has finally announced an official date and venue for the MCXtrema’s debut, so we will have to wait for the Monterey Car Week 2023, which kicks off next Friday, 18 August.
