Mercedes-Benz slams the table with its new eActros 600 electric truck

With the new eActros 600, Mercedes-Benz wanted to make it clear that electric propulsion systems can also be a solution for road freight transport

The German manufacturer has just officially unveiled its new electric truck for road freight transport. With an 800 V architecture and a pair of electric motors that together deliver up to 600 kW of power, the eActros 600 also features three battery packs with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells with a total capacity of 621 kWh.

When it comes to charging, Mercedes-Benz explains that using a fast charging point with a CCS2 connector, the new eActros 600 supports a maximum power of 400 kW. However, the German manufacturer’s new electric truck will also be capable of handling up to 1 MW once the MCS charging standard Megawatt Charging System has been finally defined.

As far as range is concerned, Mercedes-Benz promises up to 500 kilometres on a full battery pack charge, with a total weight of the truck and trailer of 40 tonnes. It has also highlighted that, by charging during a mandatory legal rest stop, the eActros 600 is capable of covering a thousand kilometres a day. This makes it a viable alternative to today’s combustion-engine trucks for road freight transport.

The new king of the road

The eActros 600 also features two external power outlets. The first is hydraulic and allows mechanical equipment to be connected, while the second can provide between 20 and 90 kW of AC or DC power to supply energy, for example, to a trailer with a refrigerated compartment. The interior of the new Mercedes-Benz electric truck, on the other hand, is entirely conventional, with no real differences compared to any other combustion-engine truck of similar specifications.

Mercedes-Benz will offer all buyers of its new electric truck a 12-month warranty with no mileage limit, while the propulsion system will be covered for a maximum of 36 months or 360,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. The company will also take responsibility for any incident involving the battery pack, up to a maximum of 72 months, 720,000 kilometres or 1,800 charge cycles, whichever is reached first.
