New Audi Q7 2019: total renewal for the family luxury SUV
The new Audi Q7, which arrives at dealerships in September, can already boast the styling and high-tech equipment systems of the Q8.
The logical evolution of the Audi Q7 is already here. You could say we are looking at the family version of the Audi Q8. In reality, however, the Q7 reached the market long before the high-end sports SUV Audi.
This deep update of the Audi Q7 2019 brings everything we could expect after the road test of the Audi Q8: a look related to the coupé, the full touch-based control system with digital screens, engines featuring mild hybrid technology, plus safety and assistance systems… But let’s take it step by step.
Exterior design: the more aggressive Audi Q7
Of all its generations and updates, this new Audi Q7 is the one with the most imposing look. The huge Singleframe grille is undoubtedly the star, along with the generous air intakes.

The Audi repeats some identifying features we have already seen on other models, such as the chrome strip joining the rear light clusters. Or the strength conveyed by the side sill design, as if to highlight the ground clearance.
Optionally, the Audi Q7 can be equipped with the most advanced lighting Audi offers: headlights with HD Matrix LED technology and laser light. The exterior S line trim places greater emphasis on sportiness, with the characteristic Audi blade on the front bumper, 20-inch wheels, a specific underbody guard at the rear and body-colour paint for all elements.

As for dimensions, the aesthetic changes barely alter the footprint of the new Audi Q7 on the road. It is 11 mm longer, reaching 5.06 metres. The width stays at 1.97 metres, and the height at 1.74 metres.
Digital interior, optional 7 seats
Inside, the Audi Q7 remains one of the best SUVs in its class for travelling, in terms of available space, versatility and comfort features. The dashboard layout is like that of the Audi Q8, and like the brand’s latest models in the upper segment: MMI control concept with two huge touch screens in the centre, and the Audi virtual cockpit digital instrumentation.
The five-seat Audi Q7 offers boot capacity ranging from 865 to 2,050 litres, depending on the position of the second-row seats. The boot is always accessed through an electric tailgate, which can optionally be activated by a foot gesture control. The second row can be “plus”, with individual seats.
Seven seats are optionally available, by adding a third row with two seats featuring electric folding.

With the top-of-the-range navigation system, MMI Navigation plus, the Audi Q7 offers new connectivity services, taking advantage of the 5G standard. Alongside the Wi-Fi hotspot and voice control, there is the online traffic information system and navigation with Google Earth. The Amazon Alexa voice service is also a new feature.
With no confirmed availability date in Spain, the Audi Q7 receives the traffic light information system that Audi is gradually introducing in some European cities. This system provides the driver with information that helps adjust speed to fulfil that dream many of us have: passing through traffic lights always on green.

Among the many assistance systems of the new Audi Q7 are adaptive cruise assist, adaptive cruise control working together with the traffic jam assist and lane keeping systems to make journeys more comfortable. The Audi emergency assist is an active emergency braking system that can bring the car to a complete stop by initiating an emergency brake application.
Audi Q7 engines: petrol and diesel, all Mild Hybrid
Audi will offer two diesel engines and one petrol engine in the new Q7. As expected, the initial range matches the current Q8 offering: a 3-litre V6 TDI engine with 231 CV output for the 45 TDI, 286 CV for the 50 TDI, and the 55 TFSI version with the 340 CV twin-turbo V6 petrol engine.

All come as standard with an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox, quattro traction and mild hybrid technology with a 48-volt electrical system. Later, Audi will offer a plug-in hybrid version, and the top-of-the-range Audi SQ7 is also expected, with the same mechanicals just presented for the new Audi SQ8 TDI.

As for the chassis, the new Audi Q7 can optionally be equipped with active anti-roll bars to control body roll. Another option to improve dynamic behaviour is four-wheel steering.
The adaptive air suspension allows ground clearance to be varied so the Audi Q7 maintains its off-road capability. To do so, it has an offroad mode that can be selected from the different Audi drive select programmes.
