New Hyundai Kona N: the GTI of compact SUVs
The first images of the Hyundai Kona N give us a glimpse of a sporty SUV that promises driving fun, and that is aimed directly at cars like the VW T-Roc R

Hyundai is preparing a new addition to its N performance family, which already includes the i20 N and the i30 N. This is the most radical version of the Hyundai Kona. And judging by what the design of its bodywork reveals, it is sure to live up to everything we fans expect from a model bearing the “N division” badge of Hyundai.
We are looking at the first SUV from Hyundai to join this dynamic family. And based on the restyled new Hyundai Kona, the result is very eye-catching without being garish. Something we have already seen in previous Hyundai N models.
The front stands out with its three-dimensional grille and large air intakes, with the “N” logo clearly visible. Even more striking is the rear, with its diffuser and twin exhaust outlets, as well as a large roof spoiler that also improves aerodynamic downforce. The wheel arches are painted in the body colour, while a red decorative strip runs along the lower front and side sills, as well as around the diffuser outline. The wheels are 19 inches.
With 250 CV, the Kona N is a real challenge for the most sporty SUVs
As for its technical specifications, there are few official details so far. But we already tell you what we expect to find under the bonnet of the Kona N, which we have seen being tuned at no less than the Nürburgring circuit, a clear statement of intent.
Logic suggests that the Kona N will share its mechanical base with the Hyundai i30 N. This means we could find a version of the 2.0 Turbo 4-cylinder, with no less than 250 CV, and the choice between a 6-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

There is no doubt that the engineers at Hyundai will adjust the suspension and brakes so that the Kona delivers maximum driving fun, having tested the Hyundai i30 N and seen the results.
Here is a selection of sporty compact SUVs, the rivals the Hyundai Kona N will face. And the duel promises to be interesting, with cars like the Volkswagen T-Roc R, the CUPRA Formentor… and others you might not expect.
