New lap record for the Honda Civic Type R: and that makes five!
The Honda Civic Type R Challenge 2018 has set a new front-wheel-drive production car lap record, this time at the Hungaroring circuit.
The Honda Civic Type R remains the star of the summer. Following the recent record set a few weeks ago at Estoril, the Japanese compact sports car has just claimed the final of the five lap records at different European circuits scheduled for this year.

This time, the setting was the Hungaroring circuit. And behind the wheel was none other than Jenson Button, a Formula 1 world champion who currently races for Honda in the NSX Super GT championship. It is also a “coincidence” that Button scored his first F1 win on this very track, driving a Honda single-seater, back in 2006.
Jenson Button: “We arrived at the Hungaroring, where I won my first Formula 1 race with Honda in 2006, to set a new record with a front-wheel-drive car, and I’m delighted that we achieved it”.
The English driver, who is not exactly used to driving on track with front-wheel-drive cars on road tyres, highlighted the neutral and balanced handling of the Civic, as well as the performance of the brakes. The final time set at the Hungarian circuit was 2 minutes and 10.19 seconds.
The five Civic Type R Challenge 2018 records
The Honda challenge to demonstrate the potential of the Civic Type R Challenge 2018, and to establish it as the sportiest and fastest compact in its class, arose after the record set by the previous-generation Honda Civic Type R in April 2017, when it became the fastest front-wheel-drive production car around the Nürburgring, with a spectacular lap time of 7 minutes and 43.8 seconds.

Following the last of these challenges, these are the five front-wheel-drive production car lap records set by the Honda Civic Type R Challenge 2018. Quite something!
