New Opel Astra Electric: 5-door and estate with a range of 416 km

In spring 2023 the new Opel Astra Electric will reach the market. The German brand already announced when it presented the new generation of the Opel Astra that its compact model would, for the first time in its history, be offered in a 100% electric version, and now the details have finally been revealed.

Available both as a 5-door body and as the Sports Tourer estate, the Opel Astra Electric shares its propulsion system with the Peugeot e-308, one of the few current alternatives in the compact segment with 100% electric propulsion.

Up to 416 km of range and DC fast charging at 100 kW

The Opel Astra Electric’s motor delivers 156 CV and a maximum torque of 270 Nm, and the 54 kWh gross battery capacity (net: 51 kWh) allows a homologated range of up to 416 km. Top speed has been limited to 170 km/h, slightly above what is usual in this category.

The announced average consumption is very low: 12.7 kWh per 100 km. As for maximum charging power, it accepts up to 11 kW using the three-phase on-board AC charger, and up to 100 kW on DC chargers, so the battery can reach 80% charge in about 30 minutes.

With the battery located under the floor (the new Astra was designed from the outset on a “multi-energy” platform, to offer petrol, hybrid and electric versions), the Opel Astra Electric keeps the same interior space as the petrol and diesel versions. Boot capacity is somewhat smaller than on those, but matches what the Astra plug-in hybrids offer: just over 350 litres for the 5-door, and almost 520 litres for the estate, which increases its load capacity to more than 1,550 litres with the rear seats folded.
