NIO begins accepting orders for the L90 SUV under its second brand, Onvo

With the Onvo L90, the Chinese manufacturer aims to carve out a place in the competitive three-row SUV market, combining interior space, advanced technology and attractive prices to capture the attention of Chinese families.

Almost three months after its unveiling at the Shanghai Auto Show, NIO has begun accepting orders in the Chinese market for its second electric model under the Onvo brand. The L90 is a six-seat family SUV, arranged in three rows of seats, and also available in a seven-seat configuration.

With this model, NIO aims to carve out a place in the family SUV market with three rows of seats, offering a spacious vehicle at a truly competitive price. In China, the Onvo L90 is available from 279,900 yuan, which works out to just over 33,000 euros at current exchange rates with the battery included. This final point is important, as the model is also offered without the battery owned by the buyer, under a leasing arrangement, for 193,900 yuan – about 23,000 euros at current exchange rates. According to the manufacturer, the official launch of the Onvo L90 in the Chinese market will take place at the end of this month, with first deliveries expected from 1 August.

The Onvo L90 is the second model from the Onvo brand, following the L60, which has more compact dimensions and was presented in April. At 5.15 metres long, 2 metres wide and between 1.77 and 1.79 metres high, the Onvo L90 is a truly spacious vehicle, something to which the 3.11-metre wheelbase also contributes.

It also features a 85 kWh battery pack, which can be combined with two drive systems: a single electric motor on the rear axle with 340 kW of power, or a dual-motor setup adding another 100 kW unit on the front axle.

To go anywhere with the whole family

Under China’s generous CLTC homologation cycle, the rear-wheel-drive version, the most efficient, offers a range of up to 605 kilometres, with an average energy consumption of 14.5 kWh per 100 km. Figures that would not be possible without optimising its aerodynamics, which the engineers at the Chinese firm have ultimately brought down to just 0.25 Cd.

In terms of design, the Onvo L90 prioritises interior space, a key feature for three-row SUV users. With an effective cabin length of 4,195 mm, it offers 670 litres of luggage space in the boot, to which another 240 litres of storage under the bonnet must be added.

Cutting-edge technology

Finally, it is worth noting that the Onvo L90 uses the 900 V platform of NIO, with all that implies when recharging at a high-power fast charging point. This family electric SUV can also take advantage of the battery swap system of NIO, should the buyer opt to lease the battery.

In its lineup, NIO positions the Onvo L90 as a more affordable option than the ES8 – known as the EL8 in Europe – a larger SUV under the NIO brand with similar dimensions but a higher price, as it is a more premium model, ranging from 59,000 to 71,000 euros at current exchange rates, depending on the version chosen and the level of equipment.
