Official! The Geneva Motor Show will return in 2022

It’s official! The Geneva Motor Show will open its doors in February 2020.

2022 is the chosen date for the return of the Geneva Motor Show. In addition, the organisers have assured that it will be “substantially different”. Now, the cancellation of public events due to the COVID-19 pandemic seems normal, but in 2020 the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show drew a lot of attention. This was the first time this show had been cancelled since the year 1040, which resulted in millions in losses. It is important to note that it was one of the first global events to be cancelled as the coronavirus spread around the world.

The 2021 Geneva Motor Show was also cancelled, but the organisers have confirmed that it will return in 2022. The press days will take place on 17 and 18 February before the show opens its doors to the public from 19 to 27 February 2022. Registration for exhibitors is already open, so car manufacturers can start planning their stands for the fair. The Geneva Motor Show next year promises to be an “exciting evolution” and “substantially different from the past”, although no details have been announced about the changes we can expect.

The 2022 Geneva Motor Show will become a reality

During this time, rumours have circulated that the next edition of the Geneva Motor Show would be an event exclusively for the media, but the organisers have confirmed that the 2022 edition will be open to the public.

Over the years, many car manufacturers have withdrawn from Geneva and have opted for online events, as traditional car exhibitions have become less relevant and too expensive. Following the cancellation of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, models such as the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, the Bentley Bacalar and the Porsche 911 Turbo, which were due to debut at the show, were revealed at digital events.

Sandro Mesquita, CEO of the Geneva International Motor Show, has stated that “with the dispatch of the tender packages, we are now officially beginning the organisation of GIMS 2022. My team and I are eager to present our concept to the exhibitors and subsequently to the public. We really hope that the health situation and the corresponding policy regulations regarding Covid 19 will allow us to bring it to life”.

Before the 2022 Geneva Motor Show takes place next February, the International Motor Show Germany will move to Munich in September of this same year, and the Los Angeles Auto Show will return in November.
