One in four vehicles sold by Porsche is already electric

The new electric Macan is playing a major role in the German manufacturer’s total sales, offsetting the figures recorded by the Taycan.

The path Porsche has embarked on towards electrifying its range of vehicles is no longer reversible, and the figures for the first quarter of the year bear this out. Between January and March, the Stuttgart-based company delivered 71,470 vehicles to customers around the world, of which 38.5 percent were electrified and more than 25 percent were fully electric.

According to the data presented by the company itself, of that 38.5 percent mentioned in the previous paragraph, 25.9 percent corresponds to fully electric vehicles and 12.6 percent to plug-in hybrids.

As might be expected, the electric Macan has been the biggest contributor to Porsche’s pure electric sales, with a total of 14,185 units sold. The Taycan added another 4,203 units. Porsche’s global electric vehicle sales during the first quarter of the year thus amounted to 18,388 units. However, the strong sales figures for the electric Macan have not been enough to surpass the results of the previous quarter, the last of 2024, when the Stuttgart-based firm sold 22,700 pure electric vehicles.

Taycan sales are not keeping pace

Against the good sales outlook for the electric Macan for the rest of the year stands the stagnation of the Taycan. Porsche’s electric sports car is not selling well in 2025, despite having recently received an update to its technical specifications which should, in principle, have been well received by the company’s customers.

For its part, Macan sales, including combustion versions, grew 14 percent, with a total of 23,555 units sold, 60 percent of which correspond to the electric version, currently available only in Europe. Management at Porsche is very satisfied with the reception this compact SUV is getting in the market and, especially, with its contribution to the growth in sales of fully electric models from the brand.

Porsche looks to the North American market

Finally, in terms of results in the main markets, North America has established itself as one of the most important markets for the company, with a total of 20,698 vehicles delivered and growth of 37 percent. In Europe, however, things have not gone as well, with sales falling 10 percent and a total of 18,017 units sold; not counting the results in the manufacturer’s home market, where deliveries also fell 34 percent, to a total of 7,495 units.

The most affected market, however, was China, where sales fell 42 percent to a total of 9,471 units sold. The company attributes these poor results to the difficult economic situation in this Asian country and to Porsche’s decision not to engage in a price war with local brands.
