Peugeot 208, official data

After a week of waiting, Peugeot has finally unveiled the new generation of its 208, a much more versatile vehicle that, despite being smaller on the outside, has grown by a few centimetres in terms of interior space and boot capacity.

As we mentioned a week ago, Peugeot has finally revealed the striking look of its new 208, a vehicle that for now can only be purchased in the two most popular body styles of the brand, three-door and five-door, versions that will be expanded in a few months with the arrival of a sporty version, a small crossover and the convertible.

Even so, this will not be the most important thing about this small compact, since if the French brand can be proud of anything, it is precisely the leap in quality its small compact has made: although the vehicle is initially somewhat smaller in terms of cabin size, it is bigger and more spacious.

But that is not all, because thanks to the use of new technologies, according to Peugeot, it has managed to save an average of 150 kg compared with the previous generation, which, combined with new, much more efficient engines, translates into a significant improvement in both its consumption and the vehicle’s CO2 emissions.

As a curiosity, it is worth noting that the lightest version of the model weighs just 975 kg, and how the engineers at Peugeot have managed to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics to achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.29. If all this is not impressive enough, certain figures are: despite losing 7 cm in length and 1 cm in height, rear seat legroom has increased by 5 cm and boot capacity by 15 litres.

Once we open the door, we find one of the most sophisticated cabins of the moment, thanks to the inclusion of certain items in its options list, such as a Head Up Display or an attractive multimedia and navigation system with a touchscreen situated atop the dashboard.

Mechanically, it is worth highlighting the inclusion across the entire range of the well-known automatic start-stop systems, seeking much tighter consumption figures which, although no engine capacity is stated, we learn will not exceed 3.4 litres/100 km, while the petrol version, with its new three-cylinder engines, will not exceed 4.3 litres/100 km.
