Possible Range Rover hybrid

More brands are joining the wave that began years ago with the Prius of adding a hybrid engine to a conventional engine: in this case it is Land Rover which, it seems, is currently developing a hybrid engine with around 34 CV of power. This possible move confirms Land Rover commitment to increasing the efficiency of its engines.

The combustion engine chosen would be the 3.0 six-cylinder diesel, which would make it the first production hybrid with a diesel engine. This powertrain would be linked to an electric motor of about 34 CV as we have already mentioned, designed to support the main engine, with the system similar to that of the Toyota Prius , which also allows the vehicle to run only on the electric motor for a few kilometres.

Although its range consists exclusively of SUVs, less efficient than the large European SUVs, they do not want to be labelled as polluters, so they are allocating large sums of money to reducing consumption and emissions. Certainly a hybrid engine is a bold move in the public imagination, and they seem to be taking it seriously.

A few months ago they presented the Freelander start-stop, which has become the first 4×4 to incorporate this system, which switches off the engine at traffic lights or in queues and helps reduce consumption by up to 10%. Even so, its consumption is still above that of the hyper-efficient BMW 5 Series, for example, but the demand for low consumption and emissions is forcing Land Rover to reorient its range of vehicles.
