Quite a statement: McLaren offers five new Design Edition variants of the 570S Spider

As if one wasn’t enough, McLaren is offering five new Design Edition finish variants for its striking and alluring 570S Spider.

A double dose of good news. First, because there are five possible Design Edition specifications that the high-end supercar manufacturer McLaren offers for the 570S Spider; and second, because the main difference between them lies in the special paint colours of each one. Besides the Onyx Black finish shown in the accompanying photographs, the other Design Edition variants are available in Silica White, Storm Grey, Vermilion Red and Vega Blue body colours.

“There is an almost unlimited number of different personalisation opportunities for the McLaren 570S Spider,” says McLaren Automotive’s Head of Design, Rob Melville. “We have selected—Melville said—the key exterior and interior colours and finishes that we believe showcase the 570S Spider in the most desirable way, and we are offering them as Design Editions because they are the ones we, as designers, would choose ourselves.”

The five new Design Editions of the 570S Spider follow the path set by the corresponding editions of the 570S Coupé, whose commercial success has encouraged McLaren executives to repeat the idea with the convertible version. That success is mainly due to the significant saving buyers of the 570S Spider make, as many items that are usually optional or part of a specific equipment pack are included as standard, such as carbon fibre interior trims, which further help personalise the model to the customer’s taste.

The 570S Spider also features a specific wheel finish, with the brake caliper colour, the badge and the finish of the two-piece electrically retractable hardtop matching, for a more balanced and visually more pleasing look.

Of the five possible specifications, four have a clear sporty orientation and the fifth has a somewhat more luxurious style. Taking the example shown in the images accompanying this text, the Onyx Black version, the retractable roof is offered in the same colour as the bodywork. It comes with forged alloy wheels with a 10-spoke design and Sigilo finish, and the interior seats and trim are finished in charcoal black Alcantara with charcoal black logos, McLaren napa leather in orange, seats upholstered in perforated orange Napa leather with contrast stitching, and a steering wheel coordinated with the finish colour and likewise trimmed in McLaren leather.

Each edition is equally exclusive and unique and has a clearly differentiated aesthetic appeal from the other four. The Design Edition packs for the McLaren 570S Spider add between €9,438 and €12,235 to the €188,750 recommended retail price of the car.

The Design Editions join the recent McLaren 570S Spider Track Pack edition, a particularly lightweight variant fitted with competition seats made of carbon fibre and designed especially for participation in the Sport Series.
