Land Rover wants to enter the SUV market and is preparing three small models
The popular British brand wants to launch three small SUV models on the market to position itself in this segment with a product of recognisable quality

Nowadays, there is no car brand worth its salt that doesn’t have one or several off-road models geared towards city driving. You know, the popular SUVs. But before this became a popular type of vehicle, only those who drove through the mountains had off-road vehicles, and nothing else. Now, it’s normal to see many of these cars on our city streets. One of the “classic” off-road brands has always been Land Rover, and now it wants to be the benchmark in this market with new models, this time in smaller, more manageable formats.
In 1997, the Land Rover Freelander was launched, representing the entry level of the Land Rover range. Now the British brand wants to repeat that success with the launch of three small SUVs, whose length will be over 4.2 metres. These three models will be based on their bigger siblings, targeting the three aspects they are aimed at.

This means that one of them will be oriented towards leisure, just as the Land Rover Discovery Sport was designed. The second model would take the Range Rover as its reference, which could point to the most luxurious version of these crossovers. Lastly, there would be the most functional model, designed to tackle the most difficult terrain, like the practical Land Rover Defender.
Although it is rumoured that the planned year for the launch of the first of these small SUVs will be 2021, it is not clear which of them will be the first to see the light of day. It could be a model positioned below the Discovery Sport, aiming to add a smaller version of this model designed for free time and leisure.

On the other hand, the brand could want to offer the more adventurous a model to drive over the most difficult terrain, so a smaller version of the Defender could be the one chosen to open up this market. With this plan, the most luxurious version is relegated to last place, although we have already said that any of them could be the chosen one.
These three new models could be based on the same architecture used by the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the Range Rover Sport or the Jaguar F-Pace, although it would be a reduced and simplified version of it. Patience, because we will soon know more about these “mini” versions of their large models.
