Range and prices of the new Mercedes-Benz GLA: from 40,800€
Orders for the new Mercedes-Benz GLA are now open. The German SUV starts its price range at 40,800€. Petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid… There’s something for everyone.
A few months ago we already told you about all the news regarding the design of this new Mercedes-Benz GLA. Its curves and youthful look are the main features of the German model’s exterior design, while inside, the space and livability typical of a family car predominate. We also gave you all the details of the new GLA 45 and 45 S AMG. Now it’s time to break down which versions are offered and at what prices they are available.
Long live diesel
The diesel versions are equipped with the latest-generation 4-cylinder OM654 engine. This engine delivers plenty of power in exchange for low consumption, thanks to the new compact structure that reduces weight and improves efficiency. Its oxidation catalyst, particulate filter and two SCR catalysts handle exhaust gas treatment so that it can meet the strict anti-pollution regulations of the European Union.

The new GLA is offered in three diesel versions. The entry-level one is the 200d, with a 150 CV engine and an 8-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Homologated consumption for this unit is around 5.5 litres, which is not bad at all. It is followed by the 200d 4MATIC version, with the same engine but slightly higher consumption due to the extra weight of all-wheel drive. The WLTP cycle for this model would be around 6 litres. And the top-of-the-range version is the 220d 4MATIC with 190 CV and 400 Nm. The GLA 220d 4MATIC accelerates in 7.3 seconds and has a combined homologated consumption similar to the 200d 4MATIC.
Fewer petrol alternatives than diesel
It seems strange to read something like this nowadays. But the new Mercedes-Benz GLA offers “only” two petrol alternatives versus the three it offers in diesel. The entry-level and cheapest in the entire GLA range is the 200, with a 1,332 cm3 engine and 120 CV of power. Its acceleration of 8.7 seconds and top speed of 210 km/h are good figures but contrast with the almost 7 litres of homologated consumption in the WLTP combined cycle. For an engine with modest performance, that is a high figure.

The 250 4MATIC version keeps the same displacement but increases power to 165 CV and offers 350 Nm of torque. Performance rises noticeably, with a top speed of 240 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration of just 6.7 seconds. Consumption homologation is estimated to be about one litre higher than the 200 version.
And yes. There will be an AMG version, as we previewed some time ago. But the price of the GLA 35 4MATIC AMG is still unknown. What we can assure you is that its dynamic performance will not leave you indifferent: 5.1 seconds of acceleration and a top speed of 250 km/h, limited thanks to its 2-litre, 225 CV engine. Mercedes has not released WLTP consumption figures either.
Prices for the GLA 250e electric version have not been revealed either. This plug-in GLA promises almost 60 km of range in 100% electric mode, which would be within the segment average. Its average consumption figures, which are surely also very good, are still to be discovered.
Prices from…
Now comes the important part. What does all the above matter if the selling price turns out higher than we expected or wanted? The new GLA range starts at 40,800€ for the 200 petrol version. 41,125€ is the starting price of the diesel range in the 200d version, and 43,450€ for the 200d 4MATIC. The top-of-the-range diesel version will start at 45,450€.

As we said, prices for both the PHEV and the AMG versions are still unknown. So in the petrol range, the most expensive model is the 250 4MATIC, with a starting price above 51,000€.
Orders are now being accepted in Spain for the new GLA, which will reach dealerships next April with a standard equipment specification specific to the Spanish market. In the summer, this German SUV will be presented at dealerships in China and the United States. Once again, we see the strong importance of Mercedes-Benz in Spain.
