Last October the Renault Mégane eVision Concept was unveiled, and since then all attention has focused on getting more information about the new Renault electric Mégane. The diamond brand has committed to electrification in one of its best-selling models in order to compete with its most direct rivals. A few weeks ago, Renault already gave us a glimpse with some teasers, but now we have seen the first official images of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric.

Luca de Meo, head of the diamond brand, has already announced that the concept and the production version would match by up to 95%. “This is a high percentage, so we expect the model that reaches the dealerships to be almost identical to the eVision concept. It will be based on the company’s CMF-EV platform, developed together with its Japanese partner Nissan, who has used it to underpin the new Nissan Ariya”.

While the teasers from a few weeks ago revealed the rear, the cockpit, the centre console, the upholstery and the door panels, the official images show an overall view of what the new electric Renault Mégane will look like when it reaches the market next year.

The front of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric will be dominated by sharp LED light units that join together in the centre, in the new diamond brand logo. Rounded lines give way to a large lower grille and side air intakes to improve aerodynamics. From the sides, the SUV concept to which the new electrified Mégane belongs can be appreciated much better.

The wheel arches and the underbody of the bodywork feature plastic protection. The waistline has been raised and has side windows that rise towards the rear. The door handles are flush at the front and integrated into the C-pillar. At the rear there is a small spoiler that continues the roofline, and a single LED light unit runs horizontally across the vehicle. The tailgate is quite flat and has a large bumper.

It is based on the brand’s CMF-EV platform and will have an electric motor capable of delivering 217 CV of power. It will be powered by a 60 kWh battery that will give it a range of 450 km according to the WLTP homologation cycle.

It will also be known as ‘MéganE’. The brand itself has said that “Renault engineers will work in the road-testing phase with a fleet of 30 pre-production vehicles that will be used throughout the summer. All the prototypes will be covered in camouflage inspired by the brand’s new logo. The electric Mégane will be produced at the French Douai factory.” It will officially go on sale in 2022.
