Renault Megane Sport Tourer, about to unveil the family Megane

Megane2

The Megane was just facelifted only a few months ago. We attended the national presentation of the fourth generation, you can read about it here.

Now it’s time to add a new body style to the Renault Megane, the most family-oriented of all. We’re talking about the Megane Sport Tourer, which will be unveiled in a few days.

The French compact is one of the most successful models in Renault history. After three generations, the arrival of the fourth brings improvements in every area, thanks to intensive work by the brand’s team, who want to make the new Megane the sales leader wherever it is sold.

The design of the new Megane follows the design trends of the brand’s latest launches, with a front end full of personality where the logo becomes the main protagonist. The LED light units create a very family-like lighting identity, similar to that of the Espace, Kadjar and Talisman.

In this fourth generation the Megane will not offer a three-door coupé version, nor a convertible variant, which narrows its range to the five-door compact variant and to the one we bring you today, the family version, which is called Sport Tourer in Renault.

The official presentation of this version is scheduled for the Geneva Motor Show

As is logical, the design will be an adaptation of the compact body, with a very similar look up to the B-pillar. Judging by the image the brand has provided, the waistline keeps its upward trend, though in a very moderate way. From the play of light and shadow, it seems the rear quarters will continue to appear very wide, something that already happens on the compact body.

The rear will be completed by the large taillights already fitted to the compact variant, with that extension that brings them almost to the centre of the tailgate, nearly identical to those of the Talisman. Inside, no changes are expected beyond more space for the second row of seats, as well as a larger boot capacity.

Mechanically, the Sport Tourer will offer the same engine range as the hatchback, including the GT variant with the 1.6 dCi engine of 160 CV and the 1.6 TCe of 205 CV, which will sit at the top of the range, as no RS version is planned for this body. In just four days we will know all the details, and in Geneva we will be able to see it in person for the first time.
