Renault Twingo GT, a sporty version of the city car with rear-wheel drive

The French automaker with the diamond badge surprises us today with a “sporty” variant of its smallest vehicle, if we forget about the electric Twizy: the Renault Twingo GT.
Although it keeps practically all the shapes of the current Renault Twingo, the Twingo GT’s appearance receives small details that set it apart from the conventional versions on the outside. We don’t know of any changes to the interior, if there are any, as Renault has not released any photos or information about the cabin.
On the outside, the highlights include the new “pepper orange” colour seen in the images, 17-inch wheels with a distinctive design, the twin rear exhaust outlets integrated into the bumper, and the air intake located on the rear left wing; yes, only on the left.

It is based on one of the first concepts of the third-generation Renault Twingo, the Twin’Run. Besides the colour seen in these images, the Twingo GT will also be offered in Lunar Grey, Deep Black and Glacier White.
What’s under the bonnet?
Under the front bonnet, as in the other versions of the Renault Twingo, there are only some cooling system pipes and little else. The engine is located at the rear, under the boot.
For this sporty edition, the French have used the 0.9 TCe engine, boosting it to 110 hp. Meanwhile, the torque generated is 170 Nm. To achieve these figures, they have essentially modified the air intake and adapted the engine control unit mapping. The gearbox has also been recalibrated to make the most of this 110 hp TCe.

It’s not all about the engine, so they have also given the little city car specific chassis tuning, lowering the suspension height and changing its calibration, modifying the ESP operation and adjusting the power steering with variable-ratio steering for more driving enjoyment.
All these modifications, together with the rear-wheel drive of the Renault Twingo, mean that the GT version, on paper, delivers more agile and dynamic handling.
Its official presentation will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, between 23 and 26 June.
