RUF Rodeo: the car Indiana Jones would dream of

The RUF Rodeo is a crossover version of the 911 964 taken to the extreme, which would make it the ideal companion for any explorer

RUF is a German company that has spent years building the most special and radical versions of various models from Porsche. However, its favourite model has always been the Porsche 911, something that we can also confirm after testing its latest generation.

The guys at RUF have a special fondness for the 964 generation of the model, that is, the one sold new from 1989 to 1993. In fact, they have already launched several creations based on this platform, such as the legendary “Yellowbird” that has adorned so many student folders.

However, the tuner has something very special in store, something different from anything we have seen so far. Its name is RUF Rodeo Concept, and it brings to mind the Porsche 911 Safari that the brand itself built in 1978 and which went on to win the Rally Dakar in 1984.

The RUF Rodeo is a tribute to the Porsche 911 Safari

This adventurous Porsche 911 is not as crude as its great-grandfather, but we can assure you it will be faster than it. Although the styling is that of a car from 30 years ago, its architecture is a long way from that.

In fact, the chassis of the RUF Rodeo is made entirely of carbon fibre and has been raised to achieve more generous ground clearance, fit an all-wheel-drive system and accommodate off-road tyres made by Michelin.

The company has not yet revealed what will power the RUF Rodeo, sitting in the rear axle. However, its latest creations used a six-cylinder boxer engine with 4.0 litres of naturally aspirated displacement and 503 CV of power, so it would not be surprising if this crossover version shared the same engine.

Let us not forget that most of this car is built from carbon fibre, so its weight should not exceed 1,300 kilos, bearing in mind the amount of add-ons it carries on its bodywork.

A styling kit worthy of Indiana Jones

Speaking of which, we can see a new protective bar at the front, buckles on the bonnet that give it a very retro look, and four auxiliary lamps mounted on the bonnet.

In addition, the RUF Rodeo has a roof rack for carrying luggage, and everything is topped off with a spare wheel mount on the rear of the sports car for getting out of the most difficult situations. All of it is set off by a beautiful colour combination that makes us dream of having this car in the garage alongside the electric E-RWB, a classic Porsche 911 with zero emissions, perfect for driving into the city centre in style.

We will have to wait and see whether the manufacturer plans a limited production run of the RUF Rodeo and, if it does, find out its price. Given that it is a true indulgence for anyone who wants the most exclusive car, we suspect it will not come in below 500,000 euros.
