SEAT Ateca FR: the trendy SUV gets its sportiest version and is already at dealerships

The launch of the Ateca on the Spanish market has been a real success, surpassing even the most optimistic forecasts of the brand’s executives. Its range already offered everything needed to attract attention in the market, but it still lacked one of the trims that always generates the most interest across the different ranges the Spanish manufacturer sells: the FR.

FR stands for a clearly sporty character and undeniable dynamic qualities. Without going to the excesses in performance and radically sporty styling that the Cupra series exude, the FR offers all the sportiness and appeal that the vast majority of buyers want for their vehicles, which also brings the great attraction of firmer, perfectly tuned suspension for that extra sporty handling that drivers also want to enjoy. An extra that also comes with a standard equipment list that is among the most complete currently available on the market in terms of driver assistance as well as connectivity and infotainment on board.

Sporty design with diesel and petrol engines

The Ateca FR is available in both petrol and diesel with two power variants, of 150 and 190 CV, with six-speed manual gearboxes and six- and seven-speed DSG automatics, the latter combinable with 4Drive all-wheel drive on the more powerful versions. The latter can also optionally be combined with the new ACC adaptive chassis control, which makes the Ateca FR the great dynamic benchmark in its segment.

Aesthetically, the Ateca also gains a lot with the FR trim, although this is obviously more a matter of taste, since the conventional versions already on sale also enjoy a certainly appealing look. In any case, the FR adds these already prestigious initials to the front and rear of the vehicle (grille and tailgate) as well as the interior (lower steering wheel spoke and door sills).

It also features new front and rear bumpers, exclusive 46 cm (18″) wheels and, above all, its entire bodywork (spoilers and wheel arches included) finished in the same body colour, with black roof bars. It also adds distinguished and elegant chrome elements on the front and rear spoilers and on the lower part of the sides, which accentuate the Ateca’s visual appeal. The FR is available in Velvet Red and Nevada White, shown in the images accompanying this text, as well as in an attractive and interesting Samoa Orange and the already familiar Rodium Grey and Magic Black available on other versions of the range, all in metallic finish.

Interior with personality and plenty of technology

On entering the cabin, the aforementioned aluminium sill plates with the FR logo are the first thing that catches the eye, as does the attractive and very pleasant-to-the-touch multifunction steering wheel trimmed in leather with the classic red stitching of SEAT’s FR versions. This combination of black with red accents is repeated on the dashboard and seats, helping to create a pleasant and sporty interior atmosphere where there is no shortage of distinctive quality touches such as mixed upholstery in Alcantara textile and aluminium pedals.

The equipment, as could not be otherwise in a trim that sits at the top of the current range, is very complete. It comes as standard with full LED headlights, blind spot detection with rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with pedestrian protection, Top View with 360° camera (bird’s-eye view of the entire perimeter of the vehicle), automatic parking assistant and automatic high beam assist, progressive steering, hands-free opening of the electric tailgate with virtual pedal function, SEAT Drive Profile with Full Link connectivity (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink connectivity for mobile devices), navigation system with map updates, 20.3 cm (8″) colour touchscreen, SD card slot and USB port in the centre console, voice recognition system, 8-speaker sound system and climate control, among other elements.

In addition, it can be enhanced with the aforementioned adaptive cruise control (ACC) and numerous options, including the innovative Traffic Jam Assist, emergency assist and traffic sign recognition system.

Prices for the Ateca FR start at 31,340 euros for the 1.4 EcoTSI 150 CV S&S FR versions, up to 40,730 euros for the 2.0 TDI CR 190 CV 4Drive DSG-7 S&S FR. These prices are subject to the current discounts and promotions offered by both the brand and the dealership.
