SEAT looks to sell a million SUVs in just five years with three models on the market
SEAT’s SUV range has only been on the market for five years, since the SEAT Ateca arrived in 2016, and it is aiming to reach the million-unit sales mark soon.

For a decade or so, the SUV body style has been the one that has taken over the automotive market. Little by little, it has pushed aside other popular options, such as MPVs, which have now almost disappeared, and saloons. One of the brands that was slowest to offer one of these crossovers with an urban spirit was SEAT. Until five years ago, the Spanish brand’s line-up had none.
The first of them was the SEAT Ateca, which arrived in 2016. It was a type of car that surprised people, because the brand did not seem interested in this class of vehicle. Then came the SEAT Arona and, more recently, the Tarraco. SEAT’s SUVs have become 50% of the brand’s sales.

A tiered range
With these three models, SEAT is present in the three segments with the highest market demand. The SEAT Arona occupies the niche of small SUVs, while the compact range is covered by the SEAT Ateca. The large SUV segment is occupied by the Tarraco, so every buyer has the type of SUV they prefer or need. The SEAT Tarraco even offers the option of seven seats, making it the ideal solution for large families.

SEAT SUV RANGE
In numbers, SEAT’s three SUV models sold 38,530 units during 2022, representing 53% of the brand’s sales this year. In 2021 they added up to 190,100 units, representing 49% of total sales across all of the brand’s models. By model, the Arona has totalled 430,000 units sold, of which 84,000 were sold in Spain.
The SEAT Ateca has sold a little over 400,000 units, of which 85,000 were sold in Spain. At the top of the range is the SEAT Tarraco, which has already reached a little over 80,000 units sold in the time it has been on the market. In Spain around 10,000 units have been sold. These are not insignificant figures, given that the Tarraco range starts at almost 30,000 euros.
With this offering, the SEAT SUV family aims to reach the million-sales mark soon and remain one of buyers’ favourite choices. A triangle of aces with a Spanish air and name that has found its place in the international market.
