Stellantis does not rule it out: BMW could be its partner in Alfa Romeo and Maserati

Stellantis could be in talks with BMW to launch a collaboration that would bring the German brand together with Alfa Romeo and Maserati to improve their models.

The situation at two of the most relevant brands in Stellantis is quite complicated, and it comes as no surprise that they need a major shake-up to stay in the market. Alfa Romeo and Maserati are not going through their best moment, and a rescue plan for both brands is being prepared. This could involve bringing in an industrial partner to help develop new models and manufacture several of those already on the market.

One possibility is that a Chinese company joins Stellantis, which could give the European group battery and electric motor technology, making the transition to full electrification simpler and faster. However, there is another option that could prove more efficient and would keep both brands within the European sphere, without the involvement of Asian brands.

Nothing has been confirmed, but it has been said that Stellantis’s second interlocutor for saving both Italian brands is none other than BMW. With this German group taking a stake in both brands, the sale of the two would be avoided, and the German brand’s technology would be used for the development of new models and the new versions of models such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Stelvio, Maserati Quattroporte and Levante.

Technology and experience to move forward

The option of BMW is one of the most suitable, since, in addition to having advanced technology, backed by the Neue Klasse electric range, this German brand is accustomed to managing luxury brands. It should not be forgotten that Rolls-Royce belongs to BMW, and this brand is offering very attractive solutions in a very traditional segment.

Maserati is Stellantis’s luxury brand, so it would benefit from these luxury solutions for its models and improve its vehicles in order to occupy an important place in the sale of cars aimed at a high-income level. As for Alfa Romeo, this brand may also benefit from the changes introduced at the trident brand.

The future models of Alfa Romeo are suffering delays due to problems in developing their electric traction systems and other reasons. So the innovations introduced will also be used at Alfa Romeo to finish preparing the brand’s next models.

For now, there is no official confirmation, but the possibility of the union of these two European giants could bring interesting synergies, and the collaboration could open a new scenario in the automotive industry that strengthens the presence of European models against those coming from the Chinese market.
