Suzuki unveils the new GSX-S 1000 GT, the touring version of its renewed maxinaked

After renewing its range with the GSX-S 1000 maxinaked, Suzuki now presents the touring version of it, the GSX-S 1000 GT, a powerful motorcycle for long journeys

Suzuki is in the midst of renewing its motorcycle range, a process that is taking place little by little but without pause, as we have seen with the most recent presentations. To these we must now add a new one from the GSX-S 1000 GT, a friendlier version of the recently renewed maxinaked from the Hamamatsu company, the GSX-S 1000.

The new GSX-S 1000 is a maxinaked whose development engineers at Suzuki took the sporty GSX-R 1000 very much into account, so we are looking at a motorcycle with undoubtedly sporty features, although it does not reach the characteristics of the Japanese superbike. Without a doubt this is a segment that is on the rise, but even so, many customers who seek this sportiness do not opt for a naked motorcycle due to the limited aerodynamic protection it offers and its sporty riding position, which is why this new GSX-S 1000 GT was born.

With the new GSX-S 1000 GT, Suzuki aims to attract the type of customer who wants a sporty motorcycle without giving up the comfort of a touring motorcycle for covering long distances, a segment that Suzuki now covers with this model. To achieve this, the motorcycle’s aerodynamics had to be studied again. Let us remember that in the naked version they were very carefully designed, with the aim of offering greater protection to rider and passenger, which has resulted in a new front design that, although it has lost some of its spectacular look, still draws attention.

As you can see, the rider’s position is now covered thanks to the high screen mounted on the front fairing, with very sculpted and well-defined lines from which the side fairings emerge and which cover almost the entire engine. Thanks to this design, the vertical configuration of the front LED light unit has been abandoned, now being horizontal, with “eyelashes” above it that act as daytime running lights; while on both sides of the headlights another fairing emerges that overlaps the previous one. At the rear, the changes are minor: the design of the sides has been modified to include passenger grab handles and the pannier mounts integrated into the fairing itself, so that when they are removed the overall styling is not broken.

From the rider’s position we find a 6.5-inch colour TFT LCD display, which presents information in a different way from the naked version, with clearer and more orderly graphics that allow quick reading. In addition, with a clear touring orientation, this screen replicates smartphone functions and can be used with the Suzuki mySpin app, which gives access to functions such as maps, phone contacts, music and many more. Since all this means battery consumption for your phone, Suzuki has installed a USB socket on the side of the screen that will come in handy for charging your devices.

The whole cycle part of the new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT is similar to its naked sister model, but the rider will notice that the handlebars, seats and suspension have a different setup to allow long-distance journeys in complete comfort. In addition, it continues to use the powerful 999 cc inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 152 CV at 11,000 rpm and a torque of 106 Nm at 9,250 rpm, which allows it to accelerate to 200 km/h in just 6.64 seconds. All this power will be kept under control at all times thanks to the package of rider-assistance systems Suzuki’s Intelligent Riding System (S.I.R.S.) that we already know from the naked version.

For the moment Suzuki has not revealed the availability or price of the new GSX-S 1000 GT, although we can take as a reference the 13,695 euros of the base version, which in this GT version will surely be slightly higher due to the new touring accessories it includes.
