Tesla Model 3 vs Nissan LEAF: which is the better choice?
The Tesla Model 3 and the Nissan LEAF are the two most popular electric cars on the market, so we compare them in terms of equipment and prices.

The world of electric cars has seen a fair number of changes in recent months. If the best-selling electric car for years has been the Nissan LEAF, we have been surprised by an important change. Today, the electric car that has sold the most units, both over the last year and throughout its entire commercial life, is the Tesla Model 3. But which of the two is better?
It is difficult to compare both models, since each belongs to a different category. The Nissan LEAF, the number one until quite recently, is a compact in segment C, while the Tesla Model 3 is a saloon in segment D. Very different cars, yet they share similar characteristics that make them very similar vehicles.

Similar versions
Starting from this main difference, we find very close versions that make these two models very similar. For example, we can look at the Nissan LEAF e+ and the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range RWD, the entry-level version of the model. This roughly balances performance and highlights a key detail: the price.
The Nissan LEAF e+ is the top version of the electric city car. It is smaller and more compact than its rival, and its styling, although modern and current, is similar to that of any contemporary diesel or petrol car. That said, the capacity of its boot is slightly larger than that of the Model 3, specifically 10 litres more, reaching 435 litres of capacity.

Technological equipment
Tesla has a great technological capability and is more efficient when it comes to this kind of technology. The Autopilot of the Californian brand is quite efficient and can move the car with ease in many conditions. That said, it has its limitations and you must always stay alert to avoid risks. As for Nissan, the driver assistance technology does not allow as much freedom, but it is useful for moving with greater safety, both on the road and in the city.

Engine and battery
The Tesla Model 3 offers better performance, more range and more speed. Range with a 50 kW battery in this case reaches up to 409 kilometres, while the Nissan LEAF has a range of up to 385 kilometres with its 65 kWh battery. A shorter distance, paired with a top speed that does not exceed 144 km/h. The Tesla Model 3 offers a top speed of 210 km/h, clearly higher.
The engine power of the Nissan LEAF e+ is 160 kW, which equates to 218 CV, while the power of the Tesla Model 3 reaches up to 306 CV in its entry-level version. It remains a car with more performance than the Nissan LEAF, which has allowed it to place itself ahead of it.
But all of that comes with a drawback. And that is the price. While the Nissan LEAF e+ offers good functionality and equipment for a starting price of 44,000 euros, which can drop to 38,400 euros when financed through the brand, the Tesla Model 3 reaches a price of 49,000 euros. Perhaps someone considering an electric car will not see that price difference as excessive, but it is certainly quite high.
The best option? The Tesla Model 3 offers more equipment, power, range and technology, but the Nissan LEAF offers enough to enjoy electric driving, with sufficient equipment and technology for everyday use at a considerably lower price. The choice, of course, is up to each individual.
