#5 Smart Electric Cars Tests SUV
Test drive Smart #5 BRABUS 2025: the electric SUV that redefines the brand. Big, powerful and 646 CV
The Smart #5 BRABUS 2025 is not the Smart we knew. With 646 CV, an impressive design and cutting-edge technology, this electric SUV redefines what the brand can offer
When we think of Smart, many of us still picture compact city cars designed to move nimbly around town. But with the arrival of the Smart #5 BRABUS 2025, that image changes completely. This five-seat electric SUV is a true statement of intent: not only is it bigger and more powerful than any previous Smart model, but it also features cutting-edge technology and unprecedented performance for the brand.
The first thing that catches the eye when looking at the Smart #5 is its size. With a length of 4.70 metres, a width of 1.92 metres and a height of 1.64 metres, it is a car that moves far away from the small city models for which Smart has always been known. This model has a wheelbase of 2.90 metres, placing it in a larger segment, directly against rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.4 or the Tesla Model Y. To put it in perspective, the Smart #5 is 30 centimetres longer than the Mercedes-Benz EQB. This difference in size is noticeable not only in its styling but also in interior space and cargo capacity. The boot offers up to 630 litres of capacity (with the rear seats folded), a volume more than sufficient for long journeys or everyday family use, and it also has an additional front boot of 72 litres, ideal for storing small items and other bits and pieces.

The BRABUS version of the Smart #5 comes with 646 CV (478 kW) under the bonnet, a figure that leaves any comparison with traditional Smart models far behind. Almost nine times more powerful than the historic Smart fortwo, this version of the electric SUV breaks with everything. Its power is not only impressive, but it is also backed by an all-wheel-drive layout provided by the two electric motors, which allows the Smart #5 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds when the Launch Control function is activated. This performance places it in the same league as giants such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and the Porsche Macan Turbo, although the Smart #5 stands out for offering the best power-to-price ratio: available from €62,640, compared with €78,000 for the Hyundai and more than €116,000 for the Porsche.
Design: presence and personality
The interior of the Smart #5 BRABUS reflects the premium approach the brand has adopted for this model. Equipment includes three screens in high definition: one for the speed indicators, another for the multimedia system and a third for the Head-Up Display that projects essential information directly onto the windscreen. The vehicle also features a panoramic roof, a Sennheiser Signature sound system with 20 speakers and full connectivity options with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring the journey is as enjoyable as it is efficient. It is a car that, while still retaining that distinctive Smart touch, has evolved and grown enough to be taken seriously as a competitor in the electric SUV segment. During our test, driving around the city and on the open road, people certainly noticed it. If there is one thing this car conveys, it is that it is designed to stand out.

As for material quality, Smart has done a great job. The interior of the #5 conveys a sense of discreet luxury. The finishes are of high quality, with a clean design and a logical layout of the controls. The interior space, for both front and rear occupants, is surprisingly generous for an SUV in this category, with a flat floor that makes getting in and out easier. The sense of spaciousness is clear, something that is really appreciated on long journeys.
Technology: advanced and accessible
One of the features that most stands out on the Smart #5 is its technology. This model is the first from the brand to incorporate the Smart Cockpit, a state-of-the-art digital interface. The car has a 13.8-inch touchscreen in the centre, flanked by a 12.3-inch digital panel that replaces the traditional instrument cluster. Facial recognition technology that adjusts the seat and mirror positions is an impressive detail, adding comfort and personalisation for the user. In addition, the multimedia system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keeping you connected at all times.
The Head-Up Display is another highlight, projecting essential information directly onto the windscreen so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road. And when it comes to comfort, the climate control system and the heated and ventilated seats are perfect for ensuring a comfortable journey at all times. The Smart #5 also features a magnificent Sennheiser sound system with 20 speakers and a maximum output of 2,000 W.

Electric performance: speed and range
As a fully electric vehicle, the Smart #5 has a rear-mounted electric motor producing 340 CV (250 kW) in its base version, but there is a higher version with 587 CV (433 kW) and all-wheel drive, which incorporates motors on both axles. This translates into impressive acceleration for a car of this size. In our test, the Smart #5 reached 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, which is remarkable for an SUV of this size and weight.
As for range, the Smart #5 is presented as an efficient and practical car for everyday use. In the version with a 100 kWh battery, range is rated at 590 km WLTP. During our real-world test, we managed to cover more than 400 km in mixed driving, demonstrating that this SUV has enough range for long journeys without needing to recharge frequently.

The charging system is one of its strong points, if not the strongest, making it one of the fastest models at charging its battery of all those sold in Spain today: the 800 V platform allows ultra-fast charging powers of up to 400 kW on direct current, allowing the car to be charged in just 18 minutes from 10% to 80%.
It’s not all about power…
In terms of dynamics, the Smart #5 is a real beast. With a total output of 646 CV, it is true that it is not the most sensible option in terms of efficiency, but it is undoubtedly the most fun. This model has an electric motor of great capacity, which responds with surprising agility despite its dimensions. Acceleration is instantaneous and its responsiveness on the road is on another level. What is most surprising is how this SUV, traditionally associated with comfort, turns into a pure fun machine when you press the accelerator, with its corresponding body roll given its weight and size, something that is very well disguised thanks to the long wheelbase and the battery being mounted in the floor of the model.

In addition, this model benefits from all the technology and experience contributed by its partners Geely and Mercedes-Benz, which gives it a cutting-edge platform. The battery is not only incredibly efficient, but also maintains a realistic range for a vehicle of its size and power, thanks to its fast charging capability and its intelligent energy management. During our test, we found that the Smart #5 is not only capable of covering long distances, but does so effortlessly.
Another detail that makes this model unique is the collaboration with BRABUS, a renowned tuner famous for transforming cars into works of art on wheels. The Smart #5 offers exclusive decorative modifications that make it even more attractive, raising its styling to a higher level.
The Smart #5 is not limited to paved roads. Its all-wheel-drive system, combined with high-quality suspension, allows it to tackle more demanding terrain. In fact, the car has several driving modes, including an Off-Road function that lets you enjoy getaways off the tarmac without sacrificing comfort or safety. And for lovers of leisure, this SUV also includes a Camping function that allows you to enjoy moments of rest or quality time with family or friends during journeys. The car becomes the perfect companion for getaways, adapting to the needs of those who want to enjoy a unique experience both on and off the road.
