With more than 150 exhibitors, tributes and an exceptionally high standard of classic vehicles, the ClassicMadrid International Classic Car Show has returned this year to the Casa de Campo

ClassicMadrid 2024

As every year, at Highmotor we attended one of the most popular classic car events in the country, ClassicMadrid, held from 23 to 25 February at the Pabellón de Cristal in Madrid’s Casa de Campo, where more than 150 exhibitors gathered across the show’s roughly 20,000 square metres.

Among the standout exhibitors were several companies specialising in the restoration and sale of historic vehicles, such as Juan Lumbreras, Coupe-Pueche, RetroSport, Cochera, Importauto, AF Vans, Iván Cirre, MG Motos Clásicas and Motos Luis, among others. Gems on show included a BMW 327, a Pegaso Z-102, a Jaguar XK 120 and more contemporary models such as a magnificent Porsche 959, a 911 Turbo (Gen. 993) with a very unusual specification that once belonged to the Sultan of Oman, and a BMW 3.0 CSL in navy blue that caught everyone’s eye.

Competition winners

This year’s elegance competition was dedicated to two-seater open sports cars built before 1979. A total of 12 cars took part, from marques such as Austin, MG, Morgan, Triumph, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Hispano Suiza, Ferrari and Porsche, and the winner was a Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII built between 1911 and 1914.

Other models were honoured with separate awards for elegance and restoration: a Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider received the AON Zalba Caldú award, a MG TD was recognised for its restoration with a FEVA award, and a Morgan Three Wheeler received a Veteran Car Club award for its originality and rarity.

ClassicMadrid 2024 also set aside a space to pay tribute to two great figures of motor racing and motoring journalism, Jaime Sornosa, ‘Correcaminos’ and Arturo de Andrés. Two talks were held, full of emotion and old anecdotes from two professional careers marked by recognition and prestige.

A space reserved for legendary motorcycles

Two wheels also played a major role at the event, with two exhibitions devoted to motorcycling: one dedicated to the Paris-Dakar, with bikes ridden by great riders such as Peterhansel, Hubert Auriol, Carlos Más and Oscar Galardo, among others, and another dedicated to Grand Prix motorcycles from the 1970s and 1980s.

As is only fitting, the ground floor of the Palacio de Cristal pavilion was reserved for the numerous stalls selling spare parts, model kits, collectors’ items and second-hand vehicles, which leave more than one visitor heading home with a bag under their arm or, for the luckiest, with a new set of keys in their pocket.

Finally, here is a gallery with some of the most notable photos from the event.
