BMW continues working on the new BMW M3 Touring, a variant that has been seen running at the Nürburgring and revealing important details.

Fans of BMW have been begging for it for years, and the brand teased the idea back in the day with the E46 when it built a prototype of the M3 Touring . However, that project only served to further whet the appetite of staunch supporters of a sports car for the whole family, who will be able to satisfy their cravings very soon. Not only did BMW recently confirm that the M3 estate would become a reality, but we have already seen it at Nürburgring, still in development but showing off that superb formula.

Over the years, the idea of combining the versatility of an estate with the performance of a sports car has not only convinced many well-off family men, but also the most petrolhead enthusiasts. To date, only Audi and Mercedes-AMG had played with this recipe, but BMW has finally decided to join the game.

Of course, with the new BMW M3 and M4 on the market, it is much easier for us to predict with great certainty the qualities of the M3 Touring. The truth is that the Bavarian firm has not gone to great lengths to disguise the final look of this new variant, which proudly sports the new – and no longer so controversial – grille, a significant widening of the bodywork and a rear dominated by an aggressive diffuser and the typical quad exhaust outlets of every good BMW M.

Inside the cabin, no novelties are expected compared with what we have already seen in the 2021 M3 and M4, models that introduce a new level of personalisation and optional bucket seats that will also be present in the estate. And, just as with its siblings in the range, the true novelties compared with a conventional 3 Series Touring will be found in the mechanical section.

The crux of the matter lies in a turbocharged six-cylinder engine that will be offered with two power levels. The more “modest” of the two comes with 480 CV, but just as with the M3 and M4, this variant is not expected to reach Spanish territory. With this premise, we are left with the BMW M3 Touring Performance, a version that will debut, according to what has been stipulated, with 510 CV and 680 Nm of torque, figures that will be paired with an intelligent M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Either way, the new BMW M3 Touring is already stretching its legs at Nürburgring, the cradle of every worthy sports car, which will allow the German house to perfect the details of this new and highly anticipated variant with great precision. For now, arrival dates are unknown, but given its stage of development, we expect it will be a matter of weeks before we learn more about the new BMW M3 Touring.
