The BMW M8 Gran Coupé enters production in time for its debut in Los Angeles
The BMW M8 Gran Coupé has entered production just in time for its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The BMW 8 Series family is now complete, as the carmaker has begun producing the BMW M8 Gran Coupé earlier this month at Dingolfing, Germany.
This happened just days before the model’s world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. The BMW M8 Gran Coupé is the sixth and final variant of the 8 Series lineup, after the M8 Coupé, M8 Convertible, 8 Series Coupé, 8 Series Convertible and 8 Series Gran Coupé.
The Dingolfing plant will build up to 60 units of the BMW M8 model family per day, and the four-door M8 is expected to become the best-selling M8 variant, accounting for more than 40 percent of the plant’s daily BMW M8 volume. Following its debut at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe and the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé will arrive at dealerships worldwide in January 2020.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupé, a new version of the sports car, will hit the roads
BMW has also announced that a limited edition of 400 units will be available starting April 2020. The first edition of the BMW M8 Gran Coupe will feature the special BMW Individual Aurora Diamond Green metallic paint finish, iconic BMW laser lights in vibrant yellow, golden bronze details and Y-spoke design alloy wheels: a combination that dates back to the 2018 M8 Gran Coupe Concept.
The new BMW M8 Gran Coupé features a wheelbase of 200 mm (7.9 inches) longer compared to the two-door model variants, leading to “significantly improved comfort for two full-size seats in the rear,” according to the German carmaker.

The model is powered by the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 600 CV in the “standard” model and 625 CV in the Competition version. In both cases, peak torque is identical, at 750 Nm between 1,800 and 5,600 rpm.
All this mechanical muscle translates into exhilarating acceleration through an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox connected to a standard M xDrive AWD system with a 2WD mode. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 3.2 seconds for the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe and 3.3 seconds for the regular model.
