Last summer we were introduced to the new BMW Serie 6 Gran Turismo, while its commercial launch in our country began at the end of 2017. It is a new model within the BMW Serie 6 range, but not for the brand as a whole, since the Serie 6 Gran Turismo was created to replace its namesake from the Serie 5. From that model it inherited, among other things, numerous technologies from the concept, while also adopting newer ones to stay competitive in the premium market.

Today the BMW Serie 6 Gran Turismo offers several engines that give buyers different options when choosing this model: two petrol engines, the 630i GT and the 640i GT, the latter with the option of permanent xDrive all-wheel drive; while on the diesel side the range is somewhat limited, as it only offers the 630d GT, although it can also be fitted with permanent xDrive.

For all those customers who want the Serie 6 Gran Turismo with a diesel engine, BMW is offering a new option, which will also be the entry-level engine for this model. It will be called the 620d GT, featuring the four-cylinder diesel engine with 2,000 cc already common across the brand, but which makes its debut in this model. It is characterised by its efficiency and by offering added comfort on long-distance journeys, as well as great versatility.

It represents a significant step in performance compared to its bigger sibling, the 630d GT, since the latter delivers 265 hp, while the figures for the new 620d GT stand at 190 hp and a torque of 400 Nm available between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. As a result, we can expect more moderate and perfectly acceptable consumption of around 4.9 litres per 100 km on the combined cycle, while combined CO2 emissions are set at 129 g/km. Its acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h stands at 7.9 seconds.

This engine also features technology such as variable geometry turbo and common rail direct injection, and it will be paired exclusively with the 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox from BMW. It will be available from next July, thus leaving two options available for petrol and diesel engines; the price in our market will have to wait a little longer to be revealed.
