The BYD Dolphin Surf debuts technological and design updates for its trim levels
The BYD Dolphin Surf becomes more practical with the introduction of a five-seat version and various design and technology updates depending on its trim level

A little over a year ago, BYD launched the Dolphin Surf, a city electric car that arrived with the claim of being the most affordable model from the Chinese brand. Just a few months later, the market is seeing a series of new features before the end of 2026 that will improve both its technology and its practicality in everyday use thanks to greater flexibility.
BYD has listened to its customers and will make the Dolphin Surf more practical to use thanks to the addition of a third seat in the rear, so that future BYD customers can choose the Dolphin Surf in a four- and five-seat version depending on their needs. This, together with an exceptional 308-litre boot, makes the Dolphin Surf one of the most versatile city car options available on the market.

With this update, the BYD Dolphin Surf also receives technological improvements, such as those affecting its infotainment system. In the Comfort trim, a 12.8-inch touchscreen is now used, integrating Google with direct access to functions such as Google Assistant, navigation through Google Maps, or access to the Google Play Store to download numerous apps. Additionally, in this same trim, the digital instrument cluster also grows slightly in size, going from 7 to 8.8 inches.

Continuing in the cabin, all trim levels will now have the gear selector on the steering column instead of on the centre console. This change also affects the lever on the left, which now unifies the functions of the indicators, the lights and the windscreen wipers. Not to forget, they will also incorporate automatic climate control. In this area we also find the new steering wheel design, which in the Boost and Comfort trims becomes heated. Following this type of feature, it is also worth highlighting that the intermediate Boost trim now includes heated front seats as standard equipment.

Precisely these seats will now feature new cloth upholstery in both the Active and Boost trims, while the Comfort trim continues to use vegan leather upholstery. As standard, all trims include a luggage cover for the boot, as well as new front USB sockets with two Type-C ports. We conclude with an exterior that debuts the Skiing White paint, increasing the palette to four available colours, along with 16-inch alloy wheels, which belong to the Boost and Comfort trims and are also available on the Active trim, replacing the 15-inch steel wheels.
In Spain, the BYD Dolphin Surf starts at 20,140 euros, while the five-seat version starts at 24,490 euros, as it is only available in the Surf trim. These prices do not include discounts, promotions or government aid.
