The Changan Deepal S07 will arrive in Europe in April from 45 thousand euros

Changan expects to have a significant presence in Europe by the end of this year, with the aim of capturing a considerable share of the market, as it already does in its home market.

After being delayed by some months compared to what was announced at first, the Chinese carmaker Changan now seems finally ready to land in Europe. The company plans to debut in this market with its electric SUV Deepal S07, which will go on sale in April with a base price of 45 thousand euros, promising a range of 475 kilometres under the WLTP homologation cycle.

This will not, however, be the only Changan launch in Europe. The Deepal S05 is also on its way, although it will arrive somewhat later, and for the moment no exact date has been confirmed.

The company has for some time made clear its interest in establishing itself in Europe, and proof of this was the creation in September 2024 of a subsidiary in Munich, under the name Changan Automobile Deutschland GmbH. However, Changan’s European headquarters will ultimately be based in Mainz, from where this coming 21 March the head of the firm, Zhu Huarong, will unveil the brand’s plans for the European market.

The event is expected to focus mainly on presenting the Deepal S07 to the European public, although other models from the Deepal family will likely also be shown, such as the S05, which has been on sale in China since October. The company hopes to win the confidence of a good number of European customers, as it has already done in China, where Changan has a broad presence in the electric vehicle sector, being also the largest shareholder of Avatr and a partner of CATL. Not forgetting its collaborations in that market with other major manufacturers such as Ford, Suzuki or Mazda.

The Deepal S07 is a mid-size SUV measuring 4.75 metres long with a wheelbase of 2.90 metres. This model thus aims to compete in the European market with rivals of the calibre of the Tesla Model Y, the Volkswagen ID.4, the Audi Q4 e-tron or the Skoda Enyaq, among others.

Although the Chinese manufacturer has not yet disclosed the technical specifications of the European model, presumably saving them for the 21 March event, in China the Deepal S07 is available in two fully electric versions: one with 190 kW of power and a 69 kWh battery pack supplied by CATL, which promises 520 km of CLTC range; and another with 160 kW and an 80 kWh battery pack from supplier CALB, with which it is possible to cover 628 km, also under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle. It should also be noted that, in addition to these two fully electric versions, Changan also offers several more with a range extender.

Whether we will see the Deepal S07 in Spain is still to be seen

For the moment, the European countries where Changan will have a presence from next April are not known with certainty, but everything points to the Chinese manufacturer focusing on key markets such as Norway, Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom or the Netherlands, relying for this on a network of physical dealerships. The company has already signed agreements with distributors in Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, and plans to reach more than ten markets in Europe, relying for this on around 100 dealerships by the end of 2025.

Norway will be the starting point, and shortly afterwards it will also arrive in Germany and the Netherlands, with dealerships in cities such as Hamburg and Amsterdam. In addition, Changan plans to set up a spare parts warehouse in the Netherlands to support its expansion.
