The Citroën C4 and the C4 Cactus are merging and will become a single model

Citroën has announced that the new Citroën C4 will receive elements of the Citroën C4 and will become a model that gets closer to a compact model than to an SUV.

We are living in times of change. Or perhaps we have always been, and from time to time brands give us a surprise that makes us remember this. At first, several versions of a model are launched to cover as many possibilities as possible with all the variants available. To avoid leaving a gap through which the competition can slip in, that is. But in the end, reality creates the need and little by little those variants merge and versions are eliminated.

That is what has happened with the Citroën C4 and the popular Citroën C4 Cactus, which, according to statements made by Xavier Peugeot, Citroën’s product director, will join their concepts and become a single model. Apparently, they needed to reduce the Citroën C4 production line to eight body styles, so one of the versions had to disappear. So instead of simply consigning one of them to oblivion, they have decided to merge them and create a model that will have the best of each.

The demand for SUV models will make the company rethink the need to have models that move away from that format, so they see no need to keep the C4. The Citroën C4 Cactus will serve as the basis for that future compact and will receive some changes to incorporate elements of the C4. This means that, going against the current, some elements that make it closer to SUVs will be removed.

It is still early to talk about what awaits us with this new generation of the Citroën C4 Cactus, but according to the information Autocar has sent us, this will look less like an SUV and move towards a more compact-car appearance, better suited to the city and less to off-road terrain. It is a risky bet, since the crossover segment, which this model was very close to, is one of the most popular. Citroën is calm, because they believe there is good demand for this type of vehicle. We will see in a few months and then we can give our opinion. For now… mystery…
