Rivian Electric Cars Furgonetas
The delivery vans manufactured by Rivian are no longer exclusive to Amazon
It remains to be seen, however, whether Rivian will extend the availability of this van to markets outside the United States.
Rivian has begun accepting orders for its EDV electric delivery van in the United States, a vehicle that until now it produced exclusively for the e-commerce giant Amazon. All those companies wishing to expand their commercial vehicle fleet in that market with this electric model produced by Rivian can now do so from 79,900 dollars for the EDV 500 and from 83,900 dollars for the EDV 700.
This change in Rivian’s commercial policy regarding this van is the result of the expiry at the end of 2023 of the exclusivity clause that Amazon had held since 2019. That is why over the past year Rivian has been carrying out tests with its EDV van in collaboration with other companies operating large commercial fleets.

“Over the past year we have focused on testing with larger fleets, and we are very pleased with the results obtained in these trials. As a result of all this prior work, we will now be able to open sales to fleets of all sizes in the United States, whether they need a single van or thousands of them. Our vehicles are not only designed to be the safest on the road, but will also help fleet owners reduce their total cost of ownership and their carbon footprint.”
Two load capacities depending on the customer’s needs
The EDV van is available in two sizes, under the designations EDV 500 and EDV 700. It is important to note that, as stated in this van’s specification sheet, it is sold with a CCS1 connector for DC charging and not with a NACS connector, the new standard for the North American market. In any case, it will always be possible to use a CCS1-to-NACS adapter.
Rivian states that its EDV van supports a maximum DC charging power of 100 kW. The smaller variant, the EDV 500, has an estimated range of 260 kilometres, thanks to its 100 kWh battery pack, with a payload of approximately 1.2 tonnes and a cargo space of around 14 cubic metres. Its dimensions reach 6.3 metres in length and 2.9 metres in width, with a wheelbase of four metres.

On the other hand, the larger variant, the EDV 700, offers a range of 257 kilometres with the same battery pack, a payload of 1.02 tonnes and a cargo space of approximately 18.5 cubic metres. It measures 7.3 metres in length and almost three metres in height, with a wheelbase of 4.7 metres. Both models have front-wheel drive via an electric motor that delivers up to 235 kW of power.
