The Ford Mustang GTD makes a statement at Le Mans: 800 CV V8 engine and Performance package

The GTD version of the Ford Mustang debuts in Europe at Le Mans showcasing the new Performance package, which, according to computer simulations, will allow it to complete a lap of the Nürburgring circuit in under seven minutes.

The Ford Mustang GTD in its Carbon Series version debuts in Europe at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, coinciding with the official opening of orders for the European market. And it does so making a statement. It has more than enough reasons to do so. In fact, Ford goes even further, claiming that with the new Performance package, the Mustang GTD is capable of covering a fast lap of the legendary Nürburgring circuit in under 7 minutes. However, the “fine print” needs to be read here: for now, this announcement is based solely on simulations carried out by Ford engineers. Personally, I wouldn’t bet against them achieving it.

Performance package: high performance for the most exciting Mustang

To make the most of the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 of the Mustang GTD in sporty driving, which delivers more than 800 CV, the new Performance package plays a key role. Available across the entire Mustang GTD range, this package includes aerodynamic optimization with a larger front splitter, active elements and a specific rear spoiler to improve cornering grip by using aerodynamic downforce to press the car onto the asphalt. The package also includes “Lightweight” weight reduction§h18† measures, which dispense with sound-insulating material and add spectacular 20-inch magnesium wheels. Let’s not forget that the bodywork of every GTD is made of carbon fiber.

This European debut also served to reveal the interior of the Mustang GTD for the first time, highlighting the Recaro seats and the new steering wheel with carbon inserts, 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters, and buttons to adjust suspension calibration and the exhaust system mode. Other GTD-specific details include the welcome and goodbye graphics on the 13.2-inch touchscreen of the multimedia system, and the Performance instrumentation with a 12.4-inch display, featuring the tachometer and the engaged gear indicator at the center.

Star of Le Mans, the Mustang GTD Carbon Series features the Chroma Flame bodywork color, one of six available for the GTD, which in the Carbon Series leaves the hood and roof unpainted, while also adding a Magnetite finish for the wheels. The brake calipers can be blue, red or black, and decorative stripes are also offered, painted in the bodywork color or in a contrasting color.
