We have already been talking about the Jaguar XE and everything this new British-built saloon can offer. We know it will be officially presented to the public on 8 September, so we will not be long in seeing it in full detail, live and in person. What we bring you today, though, are some additional photos of the model and a few more details about its specifications. For now these are recreations based on the data Jaguar has released, so we can only assume they come reasonably close to reality.

Its starting price will be around 35,000 euros and we know its chassis has been built using an innovative aluminium structure that will provide greater strength and efficiency. We have also covered its connectivity features in another article, so now we will focus on the exterior design and specifications.

Seeing it reminds us of the Jaguar XF, the “big brother” of this model. This car has been designed to compete with the 3 Series of BMW or the Lexus IS. To make a difference, it uses a chassis built 75% from aluminium, which makes it very light. This allows it to lower fuel consumption, something buyers will take into account.

Its 2.0 turbodiesel engine returns 3.14 litres per 100 km and emissions below 100 g/km. The Integral Link suspension carries the lightweight construction philosophy forward, reducing weight while at the same time increasing its effectiveness.

In addition, Jaguar has developed what it calls All Surface Progress Control, a system that, at the touch of a button, lets the car take control according to the surface and improve grip on surfaces that demand more effort from the wheels to achieve it. This would address typical problems, such as rear-wheel-drive cars getting stuck in snow.

Electronic power steering makes it easy to use the parking assistance system and the lane change warning.

As for engines, it will use the V6 engine from the Jaguar F-Type, although the top versions of the saloon will be equipped with a 3.0-litre supercharged engine offering 335 CV or 375 CV. The Jaguar XE will also feature the new Ingenium family, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in both petrol and diesel form.

This engine family will launch with the 2.0 diesel, fitted to the Jaguar XE early next year. This engine will reduce consumption to 3.36 litres per 100 kilometres and, although it is expected to also appear in the Land Rover Discovery Sport, it will not be available for that model until the end of 2015.
