The Land Rover Discovery Sport takes advantage of the Ingenium engine from the Jaguar XE

The Land Rover Discovery Sport has enjoyed the confidence of buyers of this type of vehicle since its launch, although the model will now be strengthened by the addition of a new powertrain to the range, designed to replace the unit it originally used

If the Land Rover Discovery Sport was already an impressive off-roader, it is now even more so, thanks to the new engine added to its range. It is the same unit used by the Jaguar XE, so the power and versatility of this model are guaranteed. This engine replaces the 2.2-litre unit it previously used, which is older and does not offer all the capabilities specified in this new powertrain.

It is a 2.0-litre unit from the Ingenium range, offered in two power outputs. The first produces 148 CV, while the top-spec version delivers 178 CV. With this power, it can tackle whatever challenges the vehicle is asked to face, and it can overcome them successfully.

The standard gearbox is a six-speed manual, although the more powerful version offers a nine-speed automatic gearbox as an option, which improves the performance of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Both vehicles come with four-wheel drive, while it is also the more powerful of the two that offers seven seats in the cabin.

One of the major advantages of this engine over its predecessor is its greater efficiency. Consumption is rated at 4.89 litres per 100 kilometres, while CO2 emissions are 129 grams per kilometre, which significantly reduces the figures of the 2.2-litre engine. It also performs better, and the maintenance service interval has been extended from 25,700 km to 34,000 km, further proof of its efficiency and durability.

Initially, the Land Rover Discovery Sport was only offered with the 2.2-litre diesel engine, and now this will disappear from the market, with the new Ingenium engine becoming the base powertrain. For now, the units being sold continue to receive the previous engine, and the new one will not be supplied until next September, so prospective buyers of this model should bear this in mind if they want to enjoy it.
