The Lexus LFA is back on the Nürburgring under camouflage, but why?

The Lexus LFA has been spotted again at the Nürburgring with certain parts disguised by its characteristic camouflage, but why? What is the brand up to?

It was a few months ago when a unit of the Lexus LFA was captured running with some camouflage around the Nürburgring, an event that has happened again and raises our suspicions even further. It was in 2010 when the Japanese firm unveiled this model to the world, with the aim of showing that Lexus also knows how to build a good supercar. After announcing that production of the LFA would be limited to just 500 units, the brand ended its manufacture in 2012, but something tells us that we will soon see Lexus make use of this illustrious name again.

Without a doubt, these tests in the Green Hell have left us puzzled, since this is not a normal test mule. As a general rule, manufacturers use bodies from models still in production to hide the final look of the future addition, but on this occasion that has not been the case.

The Lexus LFA spotted at the Nürburgring keeps its original bodywork intact, with only a few areas of the front and rear bumpers hidden under camouflage. Even so, the Japanese firm may be working on a new version of its flagship supercar, and because that renewal is at its early stages they have used the bodywork of the previous LFA to begin the first tests.

The aerodynamics also appear to be unchanged at first glance, where an imposing splitter and an aggressive rear wing show just what the LFA is made of. The same goes for its signature soundtrack, which comes directly from a powerful naturally aspirated V10 engine capable of producing one of the best sounds in recent times.

To be more specific, that engine was set to produce a total of 560 CV and 480 Nm of torque , figures sent directly to the rear axle. It is true that the video itself shows its soundtrack still sounding just as good as ever, but Lexus may have decided to use hybridisation to extract more power without replacing the original engine.

Whatever the case, something is brewing at the Japanese brand, and that something has sparked a curiosity in us that is consuming us. For now Lexus has kept a deafening silence regarding this mysterious test mule, but little by little we will learn more details about what the Lexus LFA running at the Nürburgring is hiding.
