Land Rover Range Rover Velar SUV
The luxurious Range Rover Velar receives a new update in several areas
Land Rover presents an update for the Range Rover Velar with slight aesthetic changes and technology that has been brought up to date

Since its market launch in 2017, Land Rover has not introduced major or substantial changes to the Range Rover Velar, the brand’s luxury SUV that stands out not only for its equipment but also for its refined design compared to its siblings in the range. Perhaps that is why Land Rover does not want to tamper with it too much, with a latest update carried out in early 2023, now followed by another one, much milder by the way.
In this new update that Land Rover has prepared for the Range Rover Velar, there are no deep aesthetic changes. It now receives a new mesh pattern for the front grille, accompanied by a new light signature and which, optionally, can be replaced by matrix headlights. At the rear, the changes follow the same direction and focus solely on the light cluster, also with a new light signature that attempts to mimic that of the front headlights.

To finish with the exterior, it is worth noting that Land Rover will offer the Range Rover Velar with up to nine new optional colours, namely the solid Fuji White, Metallic Santorini Black, Hakuba Silver, Ostuni Pearl White and Arroios Grey; while the metallic finishes are Metallic Varesine Blue, Carpathian Grey, Charente Grey and Zadar Grey.
The interior changes are also fairly superficial for the Range Rover Velar and focus mainly on improving the operation of its screens, which are now driven by the latest version of Land Rover’s software called Pivi Pro4, responsible for making the 12.3-inch screen for the instrument panel, together with the Head-Up Display, and the 11.4-inch screen with curved glass for the infotainment system, present information in a more agile and simple way.

All of the Range Rover Velar’s functions can be controlled from the touchscreen, which features a new menu structure and intuitive vertical side bars, allowing quick access to the options we use most. In addition, we will have a kind of personal assistant before starting the vehicle, with which the driver can, if desired, configure it and quickly access a selection of key functions before starting each journey.

The Range Rover Velar range continues to be built around the Velar S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE and Autobiography trims; the Dynamic versions place special emphasis on aesthetics, while the Autobiography offers the greatest level of luxury available. It is worth noting that this is the version in which Windsor leather can be specified for the upholstery. Since its launch, the Range Rover Velar has made the “zero leather” option its hallmark across all trims, using sustainable and environmentally friendly fabrics as a substitute.

Mechanically, Land Rover makes petrol and diesel engines available to future owners, as well as a plug-in hybrid. As the petrol option, we will have the Ingenium P400 engine, a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology capable of delivering 400 CV of power and 550 Nm of torque, which is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.
The diesel range of Ingenium engines also features mild-hybrid technology that helps reduce consumption and emissions. This range consists of the D200 and D300 engines. The first is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 204 CV and 430 Nm of torque, while the second is a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder with 300 CV and 650 Nm of torque. Both are also paired with the eight-speed automatic transmission.

The most efficient option comes from the P400e plug-in hybrid version, which combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 300 CV with an electric motor of 105 kW, resulting in a combined output of 404 CV and 640 Nm of torque. The hybrid system uses a 19.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides an all-electric range of up to 51 kilometres. It can be charged at home from 0 to 100% in two and a half hours using a standard plug, or reach 80% capacity in 30 minutes when using a 50 kW charger.
For the time being, Land Rover has not specified prices or availability for this latest update to the Range Rover Velar.
