The new 2024 MINI Countryman puffs out its chest and flaunts its new 4x4 capabilities
Scotland is the place MINI has chosen to put the new generation of the MINI Countryman through its paces in all kinds of conditions, as it finishes its tuning phase ahead of its arrival on the market this very year.

More adventurous than ever. That is how MINI presents the new generation of the MINI Countryman, an SUV that will gain 4×4 capabilities to allow its owners to “escape everyday life”. And to prove it’s serious, MINI has unveiled the first images of the camouflaged test prototypes tackling all kinds of surfaces in the Scottish Highlands, from water crossings to steep slopes, rocky areas and mud.
Specifically, Loch Lomond National Park, home to the largest lake in the United Kingdom, has been chosen as the destination to test the MINI Countryman with its ALL4 intelligent all-wheel drive. The press release MINI accompanies the photo report with reads more like a local tourist brochure than a document that reveals much about the new car, which will be built at the German Leipzig plant starting this same year, and of which we already know some things.

For example, that it will remain the largest MINI and will even grow in size, reaching nearly 4.5 metres in length to compete directly with cars such as the Audi Q3, the very BMW X1, or the CUPRA Formentor. It also seems clear that it will launch with combustion engines, both petrol and diesel, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The MINI Countryman PHEV version will disappear, having been the brand’s first plug-in hybrid. And there will be two fully electric powertrain versions: one with a single 190 CV motor and a 54 kWh battery, and another with two motors, all-wheel drive and over 300 CV, with a battery that will reach 64 kWh of capacity.
