The new Opel Combo-e Life: leisure and free time can now be fully electric

This autumn a new fully electric van will join the Opel range, the Combo-e Life, which will use the same powertrain as the Combo-e Cargo

Opel continues its electrification strategy for its commercial models, as we saw with the award-winning Combo, which received the “Best Buy Car in Europe 2019” award and recently arrived in a fully electric configuration for various professionals under the name Combo-e Cargo. Now it is the turn of the variant aimed at families or those who want a use more focused on leisure and free time, the Combo-e Life.

The new Opel Combo-e Life will retain its versatility thanks to the option of choosing it in two different lengths, 4,400 mm or 4,750 mm, both with the option of offering either 5 or 7 seats. The first one offers a boot volume of 597 litres, expandable to 2,126 litres if the rear seats are folded down, while the long version has a load volume of 850 litres, which can be increased to 2,693 litres if the rear seats are folded down. In addition, optionally, the passenger seat can be requested to tilt and fold flush with the rear seats, so that longer objects such as surfboards can be carried.

At the rear there is also an additional 36-litre compartment for storing objects, although it should be noted that this element will only be available if you choose the panoramic sunroof with electric blind. Standard equipment includes the Multimedia Radio infotainment system, optionally upgradable to the Multimedia Navi Pro system, both with an 8-inch touchscreen and connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. We also cannot forget the safety systems available, such as hill descent control, lane keeping assist or traffic sign recognition, in addition to electronic traction control IntelliGrip.

Mechanically, the new Opel Combo-e Life uses the same electric configuration as its cargo sister, with an electric motor producing 136 CV together with a torque of 260 Nm that allows it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 11.2 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 130 km/h. We also cannot forget the 18-module lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 50 kWh, located under the floor between the front and rear axles, which gives a maximum range of 280 kilometres.

This battery can recover energy through the two selectable levels of regenerative braking, and when there is no alternative, we can use the 7.4 kW single-phase on-board charger, which, if used at a 100 kW DC public charger, will allow us to reach 80% capacity in just 30 minutes. In addition, we can use the Charge My Car function to locate and access more than 220,000 charging points across Europe.

For the time being, Opel has not revealed the price of the new Combo-e Life, and, like the Combo-e Cargo, its arrival at European dealerships is expected next autumn.
